It is such a shame to see what this former staple has become under the new ownership. Removing main items from the menu, raising prices while also shrinking to go containers, hiring too few staff. I would eat lunch here 2/3 times a week for nearly 30 years, spending who knows how much money over that time. Sadly, do not think I will be returning.
EDIT: I appreciated the owners response to my original post and the use of EVOO and grass fed butter and decided to give it another shot. The disappointment continues...
$16 for one serving of chicken and rice? even without a veggie. plus, this lemon chicken recipe was subpar compared to the previous lemon chicken that was served. why change it? I used to be able to get lunch here for $10-12 and it would last me for two lunches. What I just received could barely cover todays lunch and was more money. also, the bread was stale and hard and has been that way since not getting bread from cacias. For these prices and the quality of the recipe I just had, it will be hard to find myself back here
UPDATE: welp, shame on me I guess... gave it another go today and waited 20 minutes to even order my food, with maybe two people in front of me. 2 people working the counter during lunch, a 3rd was there but she made a sandwich left and never came back in the 25 minutes I was there. Either she had enough or a terrible time for a break. I saw 4/5 people leave the store in that time because the wait was taking too long. Losing customers in real time. Neighborhood...
Read moreThe people who think this place is âthe bestâ mustâve never had a real hoagie in their lives. First of all, if there are no other sandwich places in the area, it probably makes sense how the locals think this place is everything.
But how do you claim to be a specialty in italian hoagies and YOU DONT EVEN HAVE OLIVE OIL??? I asked for the veggie hoagie (oh, excuse me, the âherbivoreâ đ) and the guy tells me they put vinegar and âhoagie oilâ and mozzarella on it â not olive oil and sharp provolone. Because they donât have olive oil. WHAT??????
The macaroni salad is literally what you buy pre-packaged at Acme, just marked up in price. And the âshrimp saladâ tastes like they emptied CANS (yes cans) of baby shrimp into a food processor with Mayo, vinegar, and celery. So unbelievably gross and not edible unless maybe youâre a cat!
Finally, the fact that they have no shame in re-heating the meatballs, fried cutlets, and eggplant IN A WHITE âSHARPâ MICROWAVE WHICH IS IN FULL VIEW RIGHT BEHIND THE CASH REGISTER should tell you all you need to know about how concerned they are with quality.
If Iâm ever desperate and ONLY need lunch meat, I might come back just because they have Mortadella. Otherwise for real sandwiches and everything else Iâll stick with...
Read moreWe ordered their thanksgiving special and when it says it feeds 15-20 people they are not exaggerating in fact they are underselling it. We had plenty of leftovers that all 16 guests were able to take leftovers. We were apprehensive having never had food or catering from Christopher's but if you are considering don't hesitate everything was so delicious and all our guests wanted the name of the caterer for their Christmas dinner parties! (Although I definitely can't wait till Christmas for some more of Christopher's stuffed shells they were the best I've ever had we will be making a trip soon for more) They made our thanksgiving fantastic with family coming from out of town we were able to spend more time with them and less time fretting in the kitchen. They were ready at the scheduled time and pick up was very organized. And I'm missing the best part... the price!! You can't beat it!... all that great food no fuss all for under $250! We used the racks and sterno it was perfect and a little odd my oven felt neglected it's used to being heavily abused thanksgiving day! But I digress ... the long and short of it is enjoy your holiday and trust the meal to Christopher's!! They now have a new...
