A busy little coffee shop located in downtown Mount Vernon, Ohio. Happy Bean is a bright and joyful place to study, have a meeting, or just hangout with friends enjoying a coffee, tea or pastry, though it's important to note that they don't serve food other than light pastries. One unique thing about Happy Bean that is sure to catch your eye is every hot drink is served with an encouraging message written on the side of your cup, and after talking with several patrons it seems that each little message was somehow a piece of sunshine to whatever day they were having. Good or bad. Happy Bean is located inside Mount Vernon Nazarene University's, Hunter Hall building, on the first floor just as you walk into the building from Main Street. The atmosphere of Happy Bean is different from what we've experienced in other coffee shops, apart from the bustling and sometimes noisy background, there seemed to be a sense of community among the patrons, partially due to several of them being students at the same University; however we also gathered that pastors from local churches and business owners frequent the shop and are inviting and fun to talk with! The staff likewise mirror these attitudes; they helped us fumble our way through the menu, and also told us what their personal favorite drinks are. Overall we rank Happy Bean 4 out of 5 stars. It's clean and fun, and definitely a good choice for an afterwork meeting with a friend or even a cute, relaxing date with your loved one. We recommend their Mocha and the Berry Jam tea with Lemonade. :)

Read moreWonderful selection of items that are fairly priced. I was able to get all of the items I needed for my home coffee and tea brewing setup with quality materials and beans here. The coffee and tea is especially fresh and with markings for roastings and discounts for older batches. The selection was quite great too for a local coffee shop. The service by the two people working there, a lovely lady and gentleman were extremely courteous and went out of their way to find some coffee filters for me and to offer their recommendations and personal tastes on the coffee they had for sale. I didn’t get to try some of their coffee as I was coming in for the materials I needed, but I’ll be sure to come back to try some of their coffee and tea! P.S. I got a great smelling car...
Read moreQuaint and pleasant in on Main St in downtown Mount Vernon about two blocks south of the Square, located between Paragraphs Bookstore and the MVNU Art Gallery. Lots of owner-made tables from re-purposed wood with lots of space to spread out, several places along the wall and counter to plug in. Metal chairs are okay. There's also a little reading around with more comfortable chairs, could use maybe a two-seat couch to go with the small bookshelf--not sure if it's leave-one-take-one, though. The coffee is excellent, locally sourced and possible to sample the best roasters in Columbus. Sometimes, there will be a poetry club or open mic. The only problem is limited later evening hours, but this is true for all of Mt Vernon. Full disclosure: my son is a...
