Absolutely fantastic. A much needed foodie destination in Mount Vernon. You can tell this is a place created by people who care about food. 10/10 recommend this place and we will definitely go back. Super excited this place is here and I’m looking forward to trying more of the menu.
We got the cheese curd appetizer, I got the smash burger, and my wife got the Reuben. The sandwiches come with black garlic parm fries that had amazing flavor. The burger was simple without a bunch of toppings. It was cheesy, meaty, and packed with good umami flavor. Bites with the pickle were perfect, bites without the pickle were still fantastic, but did feel like it needed pickle or something to balance the cheesy meaty goodness. Maybe I’ll order a side of extra pickles next time. Curds had good flavor but texture could have been a touch better if I’m being extra nit-picky (see oil comment below). The two dipping sauces - apricot compote and peopadew poppy ranch - were unique, amazingly delicious together, and what really made the curds for me. My wife said the Reuben was a good, solid Rueben that didn’t necessarily have anything super unique about it but had no complaints. Good beer selection, excited to try their own beers when they’re ready.
One minor critique: I think both the fries and the curds were a tad too oily and could benefit from draining/shaking/whatever you need to do to the fryer basket to drain oil more. I imagine that will get better with time and practice considering they just opened 2 days ago. And, considering the flavor was still amazing it was no reason to bring the review down, just wanted to provide...
Read moreIt is quite hard to find from the street and we passed it. Finally we just started looking for the actual address number and was able to find it. We were immediately greeted and sat, as they were just opening for lunch on Saturday. Our waiter and another lady that came around to take our plates and collect our payments, we're both very friendly. The decor in the restaurant is super cool! Food was okay. Got the Smashburger and it was good. Couple of us got the fries because the waiter said they were special fries with a bunch of black pepper and Parmesan, but we were all delivered plain fries. So we added our own pepper and he brought out a container of Parmesan for us. They were nothing spectacular and couple of us didn't even finish him. One thing that did bother me was I asked for a side of barbecue sauce and I was never told they charge for barbecue sauce. I didn't want ketchup or mayonnaise (that was still brought out), but yet I was charged for barbecue sauce? What's the difference between barbecue sauce and the other condiments? I didn't get a credit for not using the other condiments. It was only 50 cents, but it's not the point. They should have told me at the time of me asking for barbecue sauce. The worst part was the barbecue sauce was terrible, so I didn't even eat it. I don't know how you mess up barbecue sauce, but there's is not good. Everything...
Read moreMy table of four went on Tuesday night. Our server, although very friendly definitely needs more training. She wanted to get our selections before we had even ordered drinks. She forgot to put in our appetizer order, then we had to ask for more water as our water carafe sat empty for some time. When she brought beer to the table she said she had to walk all the way over to the tavern to get it. Well it is on the menu! Two at our table ordered the Yellow Jacket cocktail. It should be taken off the menu as it was almost unbearable to get down. Maybe the bartender who we were told called off is the only one with the correct recipe? For an appetizer we shared the Bavarian pretzels which were just ok. We also had the 4 cheese ravioli which was standard fare, the crab cakes which were oily and unevenly cooked, the smash burger was good and cheesy, but a bit plain. No sauce or toppings. The Bahn Mi was more of overly toasted bread than anything. There was very little pork belly or slaw on it. Very dry. What was there was not cooked as pork belly should. It was quite rubbery. Honestly, the fries and garlic aioli were the best thing going on at our table. None of our party was interested in going back. As locals that is disappointing.
Also, the alleyway entrance isn't the...
