I’m So Happy To Write this Review on behalf of the 4 of us, 2 of Which are Award winning Chefs
As a well known local chef for some famous recipes of mine, I can tell You I’ve traveled the world over with my work, and Every time I can write a Great review For somewhere or someone it’s with great pleasure because I know what the Very Best is, I saw that there tonight with your server Kat, Now there’s someone with a whole lot of Heart who is very deserving of this review
Plain and simple Two Friends who are more family than Friends came over to our home and they were saying about how incredible your fish and chips were, We said “let’s go there for dinner tonight?” We threw together an impromptu Dinner plan, and it was our lucky day That we did because from the moment we entered we’re greeted and seated by another server and she was really warmly welcoming, But Our server was Kat so I want to focus on Her performance, every single step of the way, she was one of the most fun, caring, outgoing, genuinely invested individuals in making sure we had the very best experience, she was clearly the biggest fan of the restaurant, the food, even sharing fond stories of the owners which she said she just loved and Sold us on their Family recipe of Baklava for dessert, it was not overstated one iota, It was Unbelievable just as she said, in fact, every single thing came out exactly as she said, Even better, We had Kat with us every step of the way who cared deeply about every detail, I was even fumbling with my camera trying to get a picture of the four of us, and no kidding Kat Climbed up on a chair, Like a cat actually lol, and wanted to take a picture in the best light possible so we had a memory worth preserving, She was wonderful, I even ordered a Diet Pepsi light ice and lime, The second time I just asked for a Diet Pepsi and I was shocked out of the full restaurant she had remembered the light ice and lime, I even said “I purposefully didn’t ask for it because you’re so busy but you remembered them both!!!!) to my amazement to which she replied “Your experience is just as important as everyone else and those details matter in a guests experience” Kat is of the highest caliber of Servers and has a Heart of Gold, I said to Her when we left I didn’t know if the owners cared but we wanted to leave Her a good review she said they read them, so, Instead of talking to future guests and saying how incredible the food is which It was, I’m speaking directly to the owners and saying how I sincerely hope you applaud Kat for all Her hard work, for Her commitment to customer service, She should Hold Her Head really high for Being an invaluable asset to this business and we’ve only ever even met Her this once and I can say The server we had and the one I witnessed visit every other table Who was genuinely invested in the outcome of every positive experience, deserves to be applauded, promoted and given every opportunity she deserves possible within your company and Included in every raise, every promotion, You name it, I have been all over the world with my work and anyone would be thrilled to have a server one tenth as good as she is, I can honestly say the food was super delicious, it all arrived as promised and I loved the fried Jalapeños I requested, the waffle fries were awesome and the Baklava, Every guest should be made to have a piece of that Or else I might contend no experience there is “complete” But speaking of everything being Perfect, no experience in my mind, at least for us would be complete unless we came back and asked for Kat every single time she is so truly wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable, We value Her Hard work and Kindness, she has a super fun personality, and Made sure our experience was five stars all the way, I sincerely hope the owners of this establishment take the time to really Thank Her and let Her know how truly special she is, because we’re four people who’ve really been around the world and Seen a lot of places, we’ve been treated good, treated poorly, But An experience like Kat gives is...
Read moreMy two sons and I decided to stop in after a nearby hike, as we checked the menu online and saw that the Square Mile offered gluten free options for my oldest. Staff were few but friendly. We might've had a new waitress, as she seemed unsure of seating and menu options. The restaurant is clean. The menu... food, brew (tap and container), and spirits... offers a decent selection. Outdoor seating on the smallish front deck (where we chose to sit) is tight. While outdoors... our fault for sitting there... motorcycles rumbled by continually, making it hard to talk with each other and just made for a lackluster eating experience. Our waitress only came out to check on us once after ordering (although, admittedly, she was tending to a 10+ person group, and other patrons, too). Another server was kind enough to bring us our food, more drinks, and condiments. I got the square mile burger and chips. Delicious. The burger (I think around $14 at the time of writing this review) was juicy and perfectly medium rare. The chips were crunchy and flavorful. My sons weren't so lucky. My oldest got a ribeye steak, I believe for $23. The steak, while cooked medium rare internally, as requested, was charred externally beyond belief. And half of the ribeye (no exaggeration) was pure gristle. For the money, we expected better. The side salad that the steak came with (a good-sized salad with a nice selection of veggies) had a semi-rotten cherry tomato on it. My son picked it off and put it aside. My youngest son's fries (also a nice portion) were greasy and all but inedible. I tried one and just couldn't stomach another. The chicken fingers he ordered had no flavor, despite being cooked well and having a nice, crunchy breading on them. I know, as I ate them because my youngest wouldn't... and I knew we were going to pay for them since the restaurant business is tough and i feel bad for anyone in that business. Although my oldest son wanted to, we didn't complain about the food or the service. Our waitress didn't check on us again. So we walked inside and asked to settle our $56 tab (including the food, 2 miller lites, and 2 sodas). The overall price wasn't bad for all that we purchased. However, the entrees are priced on the higher side for a roadside restaurant in a small town. We offered a 20% tip, as again, cook and waiter/waitress jobs are tough. However, for the price of the food compared to the quality, we can neither recommend the Square Mile (at least for dinner) nor plan...
Read moreStaff sadly killed this place. Didn’t even make it past a drink order. On the way out bartender told us to “never come back”.
So many reasons my short visit went very wrong. 1. Didn’t get greeted when I walked in, server and bartender looked at me but didn’t acknowledge me. Cool, I’ll find a seat. Asked someone if a table by the bar was open seating and was told yes. 2. After we were seated for a bit, got the bartenders attention and asked her how the service worked where we were seated since people had passed by but no one had stopped to serve us. She shared it was super busy and that there were only 2 ppl working so they would get to us when they could. Ok no problem. 3. When the bartender finally came over she asked everyone for ID. When looking at my ID, I was notified as a “courtesy” how my ID was expiring soon which I knew. She felt it important to then share how she needed me to know she would NOT be able to serve me if I come back there after it expires (even though I’m well over the age of 21 and know how this works). Great, thank you. 4. Ordered one of their “specialty” cocktails which tasted horrible. After taking one sip, I went up to the bar with the drink and kindly asked if I could get something else. I was told I wouldn’t be getting a refund and to give my drink to someone at my table, then order another drink. On that note, deemed the place wasn’t worth any more of our business so asked for the check. 5. As we were putting on our coats, the bartender reached in front of me to grab the check and see if a tip was given. Spoiler alert, there was no tip. She then proceeded to say “Oh that’s what I thought. So I can’t pour liquor back into the bottle which is why you can’t get a refund on a drink”. I shared that I understood and that her response was bad business practice along with lack of service, which is why we were leaving. She responded with some additional unkind words and then told us to “never come back” which oddly enough was what we were already planning to do...
