Update: of course you passed inspection. You challenged me to call because you claimed you were good friends with a couple of the health inspectors. This seem to concern the inspector I spoke to because it appeared you expected special favors. Obviously, you were prepared. My guess was our four plates were contaminated at the prep table. Bottom line- you took no responsibility and if you did, this would have gone another way as you suggested and the ball was in your court when I made the call. Pretty sure my husband, sister and brother in law and I got food poisoning from this place. We were all on the toilet within hours of one another. I was very pleasant when calling about my concern. The manager said she would call me back in two after talking to the owners. She did not ; so when I called back and asked to speak to her, she apologized, said she did her research but took no responsibility. As I explained that wasn’t satisfactory nor good customer service, she hung up on me. Do not recommend! Called back and asked to speak to the owners and was told they (David & Tina) were not in. Ironically, I got a call back in 5 minutes from the owner, Tina. Funny this person responded the same way as the manager and praised the manager Christine’s employee record. Hmmmm was I even talking to the owner? If it was Tina the owner, she told me just go ahead and call the health department. My next call!
Tina Tina Tina Let's tell the whole story. I was asked what would could you do besides apologize and I explained when this happened at another restaurant-one with me and another to family members, I was offered a refund or a chance to come back with a gift card. Then you said. Oh I see a pattern here. I am 59 years old and frequent restaurants at least three times a week, so one time for me getting food poisoning before your place is about 40 years of adult dining. I also explained I called for my family because I organized the breakfast and felt badly when 4 people out of 10 got sick after eating at a restaurant. I also explained the owner never questioned but wanted to accommodate the guests. You gave me the third degree and when I told you I did not eat anything else that day, it’s like you didn’t believe me. 4 out of 4 people got sick with a few hours of one another after eating at your place. Coincidence???? I can't believe an owner would respond as you did. A lot to learn in customer service needed. I did not threaten anyone but expressed my concerns and offered advice what good customer service is like. WOW Tina . The following is in response to a Yelp review that you treated me the way you did because I hung up on your manager. Now you are downright lying. I NEVER hung up the phone on your manager. She hung up on me. That is the reason I called back and asked to talk to one of the owners because I figured an owner would like to know a customer was hung up on by one of the managers. Seems to be a lot of lying on your end. When I called and asked to talk to an owner, I was told you weren’t there. Then I get a call back in five minutes. Was this another lie? I talked to the manager on Tuesday and I had to call back on Friday because the promise to call me back did not happen. She said she talked to you about our concern. When I asked you if you recall this on Friday, you didn’t remember. Is this another lie? Not good! This is a prime example of you not taking responsibility for your restaurant and taking care of customers. To say you take food seriously and not acknowledge four people who got sick about the same time is not taking it seriously. Both my sister and her husband were forced to take a day off of work. It was very taxing on my husband who is undergoing radiation after brain surgery. Your constant questions of me and making excuses of how else we got sick screams no accountability. Perhaps taking care of us would have validated us and...
Read moreMy sister & I had dinner here this evening. What an absolutely wonderful meal & the greatest server I have had in YEARS‼️ Alex was outstanding! Great knowledge of the menu, made excellent suggestions, attentive, friendly, personable, funny, efficient. Can you tell how impressed we were with Alex 👍👍👍👏👏👏. What a wonderful young man! We had so much fun with him & thoroughly enjoyed his fun personality‼️
We went to the The Elegant Farmer for pie & stopped here on the way home for dinner.
Alex suggested we share the 1/2 order of the pulled pork nachos, since we wanted to try many other menu items & save room for dessert. It was a great idea as they were a big portion. Delicious, lots of delicious, flavorful pulled pork & toppings. Great pico!
Next...my sister had the brisket sandwich & I had the Swiss cheeseburger. Delicious handmade burger 😋😋. So juicy & perfectly cooked as per my temperature request. We shared the tater tots, Mac n' Cheese, cornbread & coleslaw. My sister LOVED her tender brisket sandwich & all the sides were delicious. Fresh, crunchy slaw, the homemade Mac n' Cheese was excellent. Very cheesey with a slightly spicy flavor. We could have eaten a trough of that!! The cornbread was so moist! It would be awesome with chili, too! Great, crispy tater tots!
We took 1/2 our sandwiches home so we could share a slice of the homemade cinnamon roll bread pudding - which we devoured! The perfect blend of cinnamon & sweet.
I can't say enough good things about this place! If we didn't live in Chicago, we'd be here every week! We can't wait to go back. We will definitely make the drive again soon & try some other menu items.
I just hope we run into Alex again & the manager Jordan. Also wonderful, friendly & welcoming!
We forgot to take photos as we were so busy...
Read moreEverything about this place was, by all measures, remarkable, flavorful, the food, the atmosphere, the care in the details. It had the rhythm of a well-tuned space where effort and heart meet. But one thing fractured that harmony: the nepo-baby teenage boy stationed up front, performing the bare minimum while treating his own voice as his primary contribution to the establishment.
His remarks toward the waitress were not harmless “teasing,” but thinly veiled misogyny masquerading as humor, the sort of outdated 1980s locker-room banter that once passed for wit among men who feared emotional intelligence. He made comments about her “hardly working,” then followed with a suggestion that she “should wear more makeup.” Neither remark was clever; both reeked of entitlement, immaturity, and the illusion of superiority that privilege often breeds when left unchecked.
The waitress handled it with quiet dignity, choosing professionalism over reaction, a restraint that speaks more of her emotional discipline than his words ever could have humor. Yet someone in management must intervene. This kind of behavior, however trivial it may appear, erodes the respect and integrity that true hospitality depends upon.
Were it not for that boy’s arrogance, the experience would have been flawless. Everything else, the food, the service, the atmosphere, reflected genuine commitment. But watching one spoiled mouth drag down an otherwise exceptional team felt like witnessing a small act of cultural decay.
I’m from out of town, but respect is a universal language. It’s easy to serve good food; it’s harder to...
