Im writing in response to a poor review that was left recently in regards to pay and employee treatment. First off, The Caffeinary does not pay minimum wage. Im not sure where this individual got that information but it is in fact, false. You know how I know? I asked. Period. It was out of pure curiosity, but the owner of the place had no problems sharing the information with me. Secondly, in reference to the female owner of the shop being a "Karen". Clearly some of you are confusing the process at the Caffeinary with the process at a chain coffee shop. Both owners pride themselves in being coffee experts and train their staff as such. They do not hire "cashiers", they hire people that they intend to train into knowledgeable% baristas. My curiosity is peeked that the person who made this claim about the female owner being a "Karen", just didn't cut it. Most likely went into her position looking for an easy, thoughtless, uninspiring job. Unfortunately for her, The Caffeinary expects quality employees who work hard to put out a quality product. Unfortunate that she just didn't measure up, which caused her to bash the owners and encourage someone to do it publicly. Pick a different place, because anyone who frequents this spot or knows the owners, knows...
Read moreI use a name different than the name on my card for gender reasons, so it was jarring to have the salesperson announce my order was ready by calling the name on my card—instead of asking what name I use, as most coffee shops do. The drinks are a little pricey, but I like that they're unique. I'm not fond of their no-outside-food policy. I appreciate the gender-neutral bathrooms.
EDIT: Last time I went, they asked me what name I wanted called for my drink, which was great! I'm glad they've updated their policies on that.
I'd like to clarify on the no-outside-food policy that I had brought a sandwich from another establishment, intending to purchase a coffee here and enjoy both inside. So this was a situation where even though I had paid to "rent the space," I still ended up needing to sit outside and eat in my car so that I could actually eat the sandwich I'd...
Read moreI’ve lived in this town for 23 years. I worked downtown for 11 years. I’ve seen this space be a lot of things. None of those businesses lasted. It was a cafe, a photo studio, maybe some kind of boutique? The fact that I don’t remember what all was even in that space is a good indication of the impact it had on the community. Then comes the Caffeinery. From day one, it was obvious that this was going to be different. Frank and Lauren transformed the space into a place you want to be. The coffee is great, the food is great, the service is great. In the midst of Covid-19, I’ve gained a greater respect for the Caffeinery because of the way they have communicated with their patrons and the truthfulness in which they communicate. I haven’t ordered any coffee beans from their roastery yet, but I’m thinking it’s time to...
