I used to come to this place when the previous owner ran the place. I was away and moved back to neighborhood and visited again for my anniversary expecting quality dishes I always enjoyed. Unfortunately, this would be the worst sushi joint I would ever suggest to anybody in town. OMG! I would never expect Tilapia to be served as sashimi! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Other sashimi and sushi were dehydrated! I felt like being served with whatever leftover. They may have refrigerated too long or freeze and defrost again and again. Appetizer was served after main entree as well. I ordered fried oysters. I could tell it was fried as frozen. If someone wants to try this joint, there are a few different sushi joints in town who serve better dishes.
Added after the respond from the restaurant owner: Your menu didn't have detailed descriptions, especially what fishes would be served. Tilapia is a fresh water fish to replace snapper. You can buy frozen Tilapia for Sashimi between $5 to10 in any Korean groceries. When people come to Japanese restaurant, they wouldn't expect to be served with Tilapia. If I were you, I would not have served Tilapia at least to Korean (like me) customer who knows what they eat. What you did is what we call RIP OFF. Maybe you could get away with Caucasian customers since many of them don't really know what they are served. Don't you dare to cheat your customers!
Tuna quality: I don't care if it was yellow tail or blue fin. My point is it was dehydrated. I, as a sashimi lover, know the quality of fish at first bite. I could tell your fishes were refrozen and defrosted again and again.
Your competitor sent me?? I actually couldn't find any Japanese restaurants in Vernon Hills area including Mundelein and Libertyville that serve quality sashimi as before. Furthermore, I make my living pretty good. Thank you if that was your concern. I don't need to get paid for bad review. I just don't want any other innocent victims from my neighborhood. It is funny that you thought I was sent by someone with my 9 and 11 years old sons.
I usually order Omakase in Osaka Sushi when it was run by the previous owner. He knew what I liked and serve the best fishes what he had that day with VERY REASONABLE PRICE. Now, I feel very happy that I didn't order Omakase because I can clearly see your business ethic from your response. If you have any other response to add, please do so. I can reply back to word by word.
Added on: Wow, you work so fast! You changed your response. You first said the Tilapia was so fresh. Now you are saying it was not Tilapia. You said I must have been sent by your competitor but you had omitted that part as well. We didn't have a big issue with kids' menu but the appetizer. Furthermore, we had never been offered any apologies. What are you talking about? I canceled the appetizer because it was not served when we had entrees. The young female waitress just brought the dish and left. APOLOGIES??? As I said. the fried oysters were not fully cooked! I could tell it was fried as it was frozen.
Should I add more details? Again, NEVER TRY TO CHEAT YOUR CUSTOMERS! If I were you, I would just say sorry and will never do it again! I wish good luck for your future endeavors but don't expect me or my buddies will visit your...
Read moreOk, I really want to like this place, because I like supporting small businesses, but right now I’m kinda debating it. I went here on a Friday lunch, ordered a small sake, Japanese beer, 2 lunch special, squid, spicy scallops and jumbo sweet shrimp nigiris. What I do like a about this place: the server is very friendly and attentive. Kudos to her. The lunch special price is very competitive compared to other sushi places in the area. They have a massive menu of fresh fish that you don’t usually find at other sushi restaurants.
That being said…..I was enjoying the whole experience until I had my jumbo sweet shrimp nigiri. The shrimp is jumbo alright, and it comes with the whole thing. I guess it was good, since I could actually see the size of the whole shrimp. Usually when I order sweet shrimp, the head would be separated and deep fried—thats why I usually like this dish—the sweetness of the raw sweet shrimp and the crunchiness of the head. Then I asked if they can fry the head for me, and the server said ok, but after she talked to the sushi chef, she came back and asked me to separate the head myself, and gave me a fork and knife. When I tried to do so, it just messed up the whole thing and all liquid came out from the shrimp head…and made me lose my appetite altogether. I don’t know if this restaurant just has a different style of serving sushi that I’m not familiar with, but it kind of ruined my experience here. On another note, the other foods...
