Lotus Room Chinese Cuisine — Restaurant in Mundy Charter Township

I had to write a review after reading what others have given this place 1 or 2 stars for. Understand: in Genesee county, there used to be a few good Chinese food places. Places that made Chinese food properly. Not the americanized expectations of poorly cooked Chinese food dishes. Yes, the sweet and sour chicken is "soggy" because it's prepared properly WITH the vegetables and fruit it's supposed to be with. Not the americanized version of Chinese Chicken nuggets that most people expect from sweet and sour chicken. All that aside: The lotus room has never let me down so far. I'm a big Mongolian beef fan, but no where- NO WHERE in genesee county comes close to The Lotus room's. The beef isn't the fatty grisly pieces other places serve, it's lean and juicy and the onions are the perfect al dented. Soft yet slight crunch. The sauce isn't full of salt, it's flavorful and delicious. I didn't try their eggs rolls but my husband said they're very good. Overall if you want quality ingredients, quality Chinese food, delicately balanced dishes that are truly GOOD Chinese food- then eat here. Eat here and try no other Chinese food places in Genesee county because none will come close. But IF you're wanting Asian style chicken nuggets for your S&S. Or you don't want Chinese food the way it's supposed to be prepared- then go somewhere else and take your american fried food tastebuds with you. I was excited to try a new Asian restaurant, especially after hearing a lot about this one. I've been to nearly every local Asian dive, with varying levels of authenticity and price. I love Americanized Asian food, I admit, but I've enjoyed more authentic restaurants as well; and while this place is indeed authentic, I think it can be a weakness as well as a strength. The menu here is very small, and very a la carte. There's no simple combo meal for a convenient variety. I sampled a couple chicken dishes. The sauces were unusual but tasty, but the chicken itself is chopped so tiny it creates a very strange experience. It felt challenging to get a satisfying bite, and the meat seemed dark, and made you wonder if the dice was compensation for the fattiness. The texture was very mushy and homogenous. Good flavor, but flat in virtually every other plane. Seafood may be better here than the very odd chicken. The soup and egg roll were good but uninspiring. Portions weren't terribly generous either; albeit I didn't really want to finish my dish anyway. The rice had good flavor. Service is fine and the decor is cute, but the strange styling of the food just didn't do it for any of my party of three. I welcome authentic cooking, but I think some of those decisions are not strong ones here. Being a big back I'd like to say that I've had plenty of Chinese food in my days walking this earth and this place is honestly the worst I've ever had. Here is what I had to say about it.

I ordered from this establishment on this past Valentine's day (2/14/25) for me and my husband. Was informed that the shrimp "fried" rice. Could not be used as a substitute for the white rice that came with the combo orders/ house specials. I was also told that there would be a wait, which was understandable.

We ordered two of the General Tso's one with subbed shrimp "fried" rice, the other with normal white rice. Both dishes had soggy hint of General Tso's sauce, chicken tender sized pieces that weren't bite sized at all. The sauce was watery and collected at the bottom of the containers. White rice was over done, The Shrimp FRIED Rice was NOT by any means fried at all, white rice with undercooked shrimp & veggies. Fried was not in the room with us.
