February 27, 2020: Revisited and ordered the meatball sub with toasted bread...EXCEPTIONAL. Heating up this sandwich is what makes it really delicious.
Jan 31, 2020: Visited the newly opened Domenico's Italian Deli with my daughter…looks to be an extremely welcome addition to the Murfreesboro Square. Arrived at 11:30am and the lunch crowd along with the curious had the line 15 deep, and a steady stream coming and going. Even with the long lines, the wait was not bad…maybe 10-15 minutes to get the order placed and about 10 minutes to get the order. The setup is your standard sandwich shop but with a few nice twists I really like. You can order different size sides, versus one size fits all and the deli case offers meat by the pound if you really love what you order. Went with the Meatball Sub with hand rolled meatballs on a roll with marinara sauce…added provolone and parmesan cheese to this one. The Italian Combo has dry salami, capicola, ham, mortadella, bologna, and provolone cheese…added the standards plus oil & vinegar. Also grabbed a couple of sides…the Pasta Roma and Pasta Feta salads plus a couple of the homemade cannoli’s.
The Meatball Sub…although it was not my sandwich I was allowed a taste. Probably one of the best meatball subs I’ve enjoyed in a very long time. The only disappointment…the bread was not toasted.
For the Italian Combo…the meats had great flavor and overall the sandwich was good, but a bit “boring”. I really believe a toasted roll would make this sandwich excellent causing the meats to “open up” and mesh the flavors and oils together.
The Pasta Salads were excellent with great flavor…highly recommend both the Pasta Roma and Pasta Feta salads as they have very different flavors but are delicious.
The Cannoli’s…DELICIOUS.
NOTE: Feedback from Domenico's is that toasted bread is an option...just not easily seen as an option. They are going to work on making people more aware of this.
Overall a solid experience, good food, and reasonable pricing. The only disappointment would be the sandwiches are all cold, meaning no toasted buns. Serving a “hot sandwich” on a cold bun as in the case of the meatball makes it underwhelming. One other item I noticed was missing…the traditional bulkie rolls (or Kaiser) which are common in NY delicatessens. These rolls are a staple and a sandwich on a good bulkie is a...
Read moreWe were actually headed to another place, when I saw this place and I said, "That better be ran by actual Italians or I'd be ticked." When I pulled up the website and their story actually tells about how the grandparents WON the immigration lottery to come to American from Italy, I told my husband that we are eating here. 🤌
First, the feel is cozy and welcoming. Always a great sign. The counter is like a true deli counter and the girl working it was super welcoming as well. She took our order and was very gracious in answering our questions.
Second, there are many details in the actual seating area. There are little nooks and cranies that you should look at. For instance, in the broken bricks, I found little objects. I thought of adding a picture, but some things should be left to the imagination for you to experience for the first time, in awe of course.
Lastly, but not any less important, the food was absolutely phenomenal. I ordered the Caprese. I ordered it as is, so tomato, arugula, basalmic, basil, mozzarella, and something else, and a cup of potato soup. Absolutely divine. The ingredients were so simple, but the taste? Perfection! 🙌
My husband got the Rueben as is and was drooling. He said the sauerkraut wasn't overpowering which is what is wrong with most places, and then he went back and got the tomato basil soup and loved it too...he's not even a soup guy.
This is the first place he wanted to give a five stars to, other than our favorite Indian place. The only thing I'm sad about is I wasn't able to get a cannoli, but I get that they run out, it happens.
Between the atmosphere, the food, the service, and the prices, this...
Read moreI was wandering around town and wanted to find something to eat. I’m a burger girl and was debating between boro bourbon and jacks until i saw this little Italian deli. After checking the reviews and the menu I decided this was where I was eating. I went with the dip because a French dip is one of my favorite sandwiches. This is not that. I think it was just a me thing tho. I wasn’t into it. Maybe it was the mayo that was throwing me. It was a very well made sandwich. Toasty bread, melted cheese, lots of meat. Au jus. It just tasted off and I can’t put my finger on why. Things to mention. The place was really lovely inside. Brick walls, dry pasta in glass jars and cured meats hanging. The service was spot on. The place was super clean. Their menu is extensive and it all sounds great. The desserts looked delicious. Maybe I should have tried something else. Idk. I wouldn’t get this sandwich again but I’d definitely eat here again. I ordered my food to go and the au jus did go EVERYWHERE. Idk what they could have done differently tho. It had a lid and was wrapped in foil. Maybe just putting it on the bottom of the bag rather than on top of the sandwich. It tipped over and soaked through the bag and napkins and into the purse I had stashed the bag in. It was a little bit of a disaster. All in all cute spot. I just wish I had went with...
