When it comes to pizza I am very spoiled enjoying some of the best pies in the USâŠI currently drive 30+ miles to enjoy some really exceptional pies. Decided to try Uncle Maddioâs in Murfreesboro seeing as it was much closer and had some stellar reviews. I liked the openness of the store and how you could see the actual ingredients for the pizza. The young lady âcreatedâ my order of a 9â traditional white crust pizza, tomato basil sauce, and 3-toppings of bella mushrooms/purple onions/sausage. OverallâŠthe total cost of $10.96 (including a beer) was extremely reasonable so I sat in a booth and waited for my pie. One thing about pizza is the waitâŠsometimes it can take forever but in this case I think my wait was around 10 minutes, and was served piping hot.
As for the pie itselfâŠeverything was well cooked and the crust was crispy. Overall it was OK, but I was not impressed. I was âunderwhelmedâ by the flavors I anticipated, and the âtanginessâ of the tomato basil sauce just did not compliment the pieâŠit overpowered it. The vegetables and sausage didnât have any flavor to themâŠI couldnât really tell if anything actually was on the pie, even purple onions and âspicyâ sausage {sigh}. Even the mozzarella on top was bland too causing me to douse the pie with some sprinkle parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper to give it some flavors.
Overall a nice looking place and the people were friendly, but for me itâs all about the pizza and what they serve here wonât bring me back.
UPDATE 11/21/2017: At the request of the manager I made a second visit and recommended I try one of their specialty pizzas (they sent me a coupon). I tried their Steak & Blue which incorporates many of the items I enjoy...all on a pizza. Unfortunately...I was still underwhelmed with the pizza. The grilled steak was grilled and stored in a bin and placed on the pizza cold. This made for a chewy and quite flavorless piece of meat. I removed the steak from a couple of pieces and the flavors of olive oil, mozzarella, blue cheese crumbles, Roma tomatoes, garlic, spinach, fresh basil, and balsamic glaze was OK. The service was still great, but the pizza just doesn't...
Read moreThe staff is very friendly. They were chatting and joking around, and very attentive. They also all seemed to get along well with each other and made us feel like family.
This was my first time there. I was wanting to try it out, because I noticed it as I passed by after getting a haircut. I brought another reviewer with me and we were both impressed. He took a lot of pictures, because the restaurant just looks nice and is pretty.
They have a lot of great ingredients that you can't always find at other pizza restaurants. The pizza itself really does remind me of the pizzas back in Italy. They even have arugula which is very common in Italy too. Their choices for toppings have American favorites, but I really can see a strong Italian influence.
The crust is also well made and their dough recipe is really great. It has the soft texture, but crispy crust of an Italian pizza. --and the toppings cut into just the right sizes and distributed so that the flavors blend well (as in, the tomatoes were diced into a good size to spread it evenly, without overpowering anything--instead of just huge slices of tomatoes). It was also evenly spread, so you didn't just have random slices with most of the toppings LOL!
We got the steak and Bleu pizza--which was fantastic! They layered the toppings as we would do in Italy, too. They started with the garlic olive oil as a base and the arugula and worked their way up and it really did balance the whole pizza. We were very impressed. We aren't very picky eaters, normally, but we are foodies and appreciate good food. This place was awesome and we'll definitely be coming back to it! đ Especially, if I miss Italy... This place has a similar taste. The only difference would be a wood oven, but otherwise, it is very similar đ€€đ„°đ„°đ„° (Obviously, I loved the...
Read moreStopped by Uncle Maddio's Pizza (Murfreesboro, TN) with a dear friend tonight! I was really hungry from my long day only eating the inside of sandwiches (yay catered meals lol) and opted for both a side salad and a small GF pizza. That "side salad" was huge (thankfully lol)! So I have about 2/3 of my pizza left for a future meal. The crust was good, but it seemed like a struggle for them to find it. Though I've heard they ask if you are gluten intolerant or if it's preferred, they didn't ask me. If you are actually intolerant/allergic, I'd recommend telling them up front. I got the Jamaican Jerk and added pineapple (plus the side Greek salad mentioned). These with water and top were $20.18, which isn't bad for 2 meals. My friend built her own pizza and said they did go a little over with the pesto, but it was delicious. She's been here a lot more than I have and said it never disappoints her. While I say it was good pizza, it didn't overwhelm me. It was just normal of this style, not great and not bad. If I felt like a pizza and was on that side of town, I'd grab it. Them having GF crust is a bonus, as that's my safe zone in terms of no barley. Give them a try! They apparently have a 50% off deal on XL pizzas on Thursdays or something, so if you need a big pizza and have someone you can share it with, that seems like a...
