Captain D's — Restaurant in Murphy

I have been treated here by people I was with many times but this time I came here on a spur of the moment decision. I had planned on eating elsewhere but plans changed as they often do. I came in around four thirty pm in the afternoon of Saturday the twenty third day of the month of November in the year two thousand and twenty four. It was busy but there was still comfortable parking and my favorite corner booth was available. All of the staff were friendly and had positive vibes. There was a holiday feel as if I was in a Christmas movie. My cashier Ellen demonstrated top tier customer service. She delivered the level of excellence in customer service that I would associate with a home town diner but that is often missing from such types of joints nowadays. She smiled, asked me about my day, went above and beyond to explain and help me find the right options, told me her name and asked mine then gave me sides of cocktail sauce when i asked. The place was clean and the food was as excellent as it has always been. The five dollar and ninety nine cent combo that included fries, two melt in your mouth hushpuppies, fish and shrimp proved to be an amazing amount of food for a reasonable price. Corporate, give this staff a raise! I would also like to add that after I had written this initial review while sitting in my booth I went into the bathroom and it was clean. The one thing that stuck out was it actually had an unscratched mirror that I could use to check my look without having to squint past scratches like I usually do at all the other restaurants whose bathrooms contain mirrors that are so old and damaged that they should be removed. It just shows that this place is a true down home family joint. One of the best places in the area to eat. To finish off an amazing dining experience, as I was walking to my vehicle I received a friendly wave from an associate who was out walking to the dumpster and his friendliness seemed genuine. This place is the real deal....

Murphy is our midpoint between home and Chattanooga, so we usually stop to eat, etc. Last night, we stopped at Captain D's for something different.

Specifics on this particular restaurant: It's been over 10 years since I've been inside any Captain D's, and this one was very clean, roomy, and nice for fast food. The food was good. The order was correct. I was full after eating. No complaints. The guy getting our order together was very friendly and helpful. My only complaint was the person taking our order. I'm hoping she was just having a bad day and was maybe just ready to go home. But as the customer- facing employee for the restaurant, she was kind of rude and snippy, especially toward my wife, which I didn't appreciate.

We were the only people in line, and it was our first visit. I knew what i wanted before heading to the counter, so there was no lingering around, trying to figure it out. She asked, i told her my meal and a drink.

She snapped at my wife, "what do you want?" My wife replied she wanted the same thing and to add cheese sticks. Again, snapping at her, "and I guess you want a drink?"

It was a short interaction, but not pleasant.

Like I said, hopefully, it was a one-time thing and not the usual.

Overall, I'd recommend the restaurant and we'll probably stop there again.

Review of Capt D's overall, not the restaurant in particular: the food was still good and hasn't seemed to change. As with all fast food, the prices were too high. We got 2 $5.99 meals, but add 2 med drinks and the cheese sticks, it was $25. For 2 of us to eat fast food anywhere, it's typically $20-30.
