Monte Alban Restaurante Mexicano — Restaurant in North Carolina

My boyfriend and I recently visited Monte Alban Mexicano while I was on a work trip to Murphy, NC. We were looking for a satisfying Mexican food experience, and while there were a few oddities to note, we overall enjoyed our visit immensely.

The menu had a variety of options, which was perfect for both meat-eaters and vegetarians like myself. I opted for the stuffed poblano peppers, and they were delicious! They were well-seasoned and flavorful, and the portion size was perfect. My boyfriend enjoyed his burrito as well, and we both appreciated that the food wasn't bland.

The drink menu also impressed us. I ordered an 18 oz margarita that was incredible, especially considering the price point of $10.99. It was a great value and extremely refreshing given how hot the restaurant was while we were there (the AC seemed like it was off or just a bit weak).

Outside of the poorly-functioning AC, the only other thing to note is that we were not immediately brought waters when seated; I had to ask for water to be brought about halfway into the meal, and I noticed other tables also didn't have water... so maybe it's a regional thing that you aren't served water to start? It was interesting, but not necessarily bad. But in spite of this abnormality, the friendly waitstaff and tasty food made for a positive dining experience at Monte Alban. For me, the fairly-priced drinks and flavorful food balanced out the minor inconveniences.

I would highly recommend you give this restaurant a try if you're ever in the area! My boyfriend and I would gladly eat here again if work brings me to this part of NC...

This is the worst Mexican place in town and quite frankly, the worst Mexican place I've ever been to. I've been three times now and both times I was disrespected by the guy in the front who always seems to have a rude attitude. Both times, he tried to rush me when getting payment, making a signal with his hand trying to get me to hurry up even though I was actively pulling out my wallet the second I got to the counter. The guy is the front obviously don't not care about his attitude or about the customers. That's the service you can expect at this Monte Albon, now let's talk about the food.

The food was absolutely terrible. The tacos fall a part as soon as you pick them up. The beef and chicken are poorly seasoned and dry. They don't add any vegetables, lettuce or cilantro on any tacos and that wouldn't even help because the taco itself tastes and feels like shoe leather. The chips are trash. They taste old and completely unseasoned. I've found nothing on the menu I've actually enjoyed and I won't need to ever again. I'll never go back to this place and I hope others do the same because they don't deserve anything since the place down the road is better in every way. This place is always a disappointment and I haven't heard otherwise from anyone I've talked to about it.

Save yourself the frustration and go to El Manzanillo down the road next to the car wash. That place is always perfect in every way. Drinks are great, service is always perfect and the food is the best Mexican you'll find until...

I try my best to refrain from negative reviews but this place is RIDICULOUS! Our last trip will be just that... OUR LAST! Upon leaving, we got our ticket and I'm glad I went over it because there was a 3rd meal on it & we only ordered 2! I said something to the server & he fixed it. We left a nice tip on the table & went to checkout. The guy who rang us up charged us more than what was on the ticket. I said something to him & he seemed confused. He eventually fixed it after we argued with him & we left. I looked at my bank statement the following day & they had charged 15 more dollars to our ticket when we left! I called & they said they would fix it. Never did. Called again & the "manager" gave me the strangest explanation I've ever heard. I just said screw it & hoped it would be fixed. Never was. So between the extra charge & tip, that was an additional 30 dollars & originally, our food was $28. Several other occasions we went & they charged us more upon checkout than what was on the ticket, but fixed it those times. BE CAREFUL WITH THIS PLACE!
