I really wanted to gatekeep this spot but maybe if enough people come, he'll branch out to SD.
Recently lived in Japan and got stationed in SD. My brother recommended this place and i will agree with him that its the best sushi in town. The fish/seafood is shipped straight from Japan. If you eat sushi often, you will immediately tell the difference when you try it.
If you indulge in an omakase, you'll get super rare cuts of fish and seafood that you won't find at many places. If youre lucky enough to get Steve (the owner) he'll treat you more than well. Jon is great too! The service staff are extremely caring and thorough. Outstanding overall!!!
The fish can be on the expensive side if you go the route I took ($150+/person), but finding this kind of quality is rare, and I get my fill when I'm in town. They have really good sushi rolls too at good prices if you're not keen on breaking the bank. Ramen and donburis are excellent too. But if you want a memorable experience that'll have you craving for more, go with an omakase or just order the good stuff straight up. There's a sign on the wall with what's available to order.
Sit at the bar and interact with the chefs, ask for recommendations, try something new, tell them what you liked and didn't like about it, they'll find you the right one you'll love.
Rare snapper, rockfish, scallops, uni, high quality octopus, the highest qualities of salmon and tuna, just to name a few of the things my brother and I have tried. Got lucky today and tried some black throated sea perch (Todouguro [sp?]) today and it was one of the best pieces of fish I've had to date. Highly doubt they'll have any again the next time I come, but I'm sure they'll have something new and...
Read moreI'm disappointed in myself for only now finding this sushi place in Murrieta. It is definitely one of the better sushi places here. The service was very good, with our server Breanna being very friendly, helping to explain items and specials on the menu, and being attentive to our table despite many guests coming in for lunch. There is both indoor and outdoor seating for those who prefer taking advantage of the southern California sunny weather as the interior was a little dark.
For the food itself, the best value appears to be the make your lunch/dinner bento box option for which you can choose an item such as pork katsu or chicken teriyaki, choose another item such as a California or shrimp tempura roll, and it comes with a side salad and a bowl of miso soup. For lunch this costs $16.95 and for dinner it's a couple of dollars more. My wife chose this option while I decided to go for the crunch roll and the popcorn lobster, both of which were really good. If you are a spicy tuna fan, many of their rolls feature spicy tuna. Next time I will be trying their sashimi and nigiri as they come highly recommended by friends.
If you have kids, they do have a kids menu that includes items like chicken tenders if your kids are not sushi fans. They do have high chairs as well if you have very young family members who are dining with you.
A very enjoyable and tasty dining experience that we are repeating again with the family in the not too...
Read moreMy last two experiences here were not great due food poisoning this last time and before that the atmosphere of an obnoxious gentleman who is friends with the sushi chef who shows up behind the bar and gets totally drunk, loud and obnoxious by Cursing non stop loudly with other families&their children present. worst of all this last time (&the last time ever) Sunday, August 27 I went for sushi and oysters with a friend. We shared everything other than the oysters and I got horrifically sick from food poisoning , that evening I puked my guts out literally for hours, and if you’ve never had food poisoning, you won’t quite understand how awful it is . I had to cancel work & appointments the following day and then ended up getting an IV to restore electrolytes and all the fluids I lost because I could not cancel appointments I had scheduled for months in advance that wee. I did call them to let them know and Sonny was like what do you want me to do about it ??! they still haven’t even credited half of my bill that I split, but they really didn’t seem...
