El Olmito Mexican Restaurant is one of Muscatine's longest standing restaurant. It has been here for as long I can remember and I've lived in Muscatine for 36 years. It was once a Mexican grocery store that also served food and has since transformed itself into a Mexican restaurant that also sells some key Mexican groceries. They offer plenty of seating which would be better suited for smaller groups but I'm sure they can push tables together to accommodate larger groups. Their salsa is not like any other in town as it is warm and almost like a broth. Their chips are hearty and very tasty. As others have mentioned they do not skimp on their fillings and their prices are more than reasonable. They are known for their tortas which are amazing but I would encourage anyone to try everything in their menu at least once. Service whether dining in or carry out is rarely longer than 15-20 minutes and always...
Read moreRecently relocated from Miami and this has become my go to restaurant. The big chain restaurants will NEVER give you the service and quality as a place like this. Attention to detail is insane, food prep timing is amazing, prices are very good and the customer service is underrated. You are greeted, checked on and treated like a restaurant should. The two main servers are ON TOP OF THEIR GAME! As far as the kitchen/chef, I’ve never been back there but something magical happens back there because the food is fast, delicious and presented VERY well. My favorite so far is the tostada de Milanesa and steak tostadas. The cooks/cook are doing the damn thing. Any negative reviews are just people that don’t know or appreciate real Mexican food. This is better than the Miami restaurants I used to eat in. Keep up to...

Order the Barbacoa Torta, with everything on it - you will thank me later. The Barbacoa melts in your mouth, it just falls apart, it tastes like it's been marinating in deliciousness for weeks it's so good. Their price for bottles of Valentina hot sauce are REALLY good too. One thing to note they don't automatically bring you out chips and salsa like other Mexican restaurants. I don't believe they have a bar or alcohol license either. But what they lack in those departments they make up for in authentic, wonderful, delicious tortas, tacos...
