Having lived in Louisville, Kentucky (the central headquarters of KFC/Yum! Brands) for seven years, I learned a few things about KFC: Namely, their product quality and overall restaurant concept has gone down...down....down. That said, because of their restaurants' consistently poor standards of quality, I’ve stayed away from KFC for a long, long time.
Recently, though, I decided give their outlets here in the Shoals another try, mainly because the new ad campaign for "Original Recipe" chicken strips sounded pretty good—if only in theory. Of the first three trips to different Shoals-area KFC locations that I've made in the last few weeks, I've found the Original Recipe chicken "strips" (or "tenders," as most people call them) to be sufficiently decent. Not overly great, but pretty good.
Tonight, however, when I arrived back home with my just-ordered 6-piece strips, I opened the box and found a garbled assortment of chicken that looked as if it'd been prepared with a ball-peen hammer. Indeed, the strips were misshapen, tangled together, overly-breaded, and ice-cold. Not very appetizing. Additionally, the large order of potato wedges I received was similarly unappetizing and cold: an incomprehensible mix of potato parts resembling the scrapings left over from the end of the night. (Just for the record, I placed my carry-out order during regular “dinner” hours [6:15 p.m. or so], so this wasn't a late-night drive-thru scramble)
I picked around in the boxes, selecting what looked most edible, and hastily threw the rest of the mess into our jumbo-sized trash can. Then, having just left the restaurant (and living about 7 blocks away), I placed a call to the location in hopes of getting someone to acknowledge the poor condition of the food. No dice. Just an impersonal, taped message on an answering machine.
If anything happens, I'll let'cha know. But it looks like me and KFC are parting ways once again. I'm sorry corporate America and its culture of apathy ruined your...
Read moreI was visiting a friend in Muscle Shoals, AL. We decided to eat at KFC buffet and get our senior discount too. The food looked good and they had a large variety of side items. There was dressing, candy yams, green beans, corn, slaw, white beans, mashed potatoes & gravy and peach cobbler for desert. It was all you can eat, there was crisp chicken and original receipt to choose from. The breast were large the thighs and legs were also nice size pieces. There was chicken livers on the buffet too. the lunch price Included your choice of a drink, cola's, coffee and tea sweet and unsweetened. The counter lady let everyone know 15 minutes before closing the buffet for additional trip to the buffet. I went for the peach cobbler to complete my meal. I checked their food service score before ordering they posted a score of 96. This is a high passing score with only minimal infraction by an employee. I would take a friend to this KFC in...
Read moreBeing so expensive, I don't go here much. I haven't been to this one, never will again. Simple order. 12 nuggets and a large fry. I was happy when I found out it was cheaper than Russelville. Now I know why. Nuggets were disgusting. Rubbery and cold. No flavor. My dog even hesitated to eat them, and she eats everything. The fries, again disgusting. Tasted like they had been cooked a few times, sat out, and recooked. Greasy as all get out. Soggy, NOT CRUNCHY or CRISPY. Again just absolutely disgusting, and again, my dog took forever to eat them. Even with that, she would smell it and wait, walk away. Come back. After about an hour, she slowly ate them. My guts are turning. Vurping... By far the worst experience ever at a KFC. Super expensive and horrible food. Staff was friendly. But obviously, they don't care about the product. Judging by the ratings, I would say it's time for new management. This...
