Tacos La Morena — Restaurant in Muskogee

Street Tacos are boring. I seldom order them. An exception today.

Tacos La Morena’s Street Tacos were outstanding. Tender steak, Cilantro and onion on double thick corn tortillas. A side of perfect beans and rice. Very good salsa roja and salsa verde served in the plastic squirt bottles. I almost used the entire bottle of salsa roja.

The restaurant is a small, friendly, family ran operation. The clean interior is plain with café style booths and a few tables. Grab your favorite canned or bottled soda from the cooler. The food is served on foam plates with plastic tableware. The ambiance is afternoon day care. Several, 2- to 3-year-old, well behaved kids were under mom’s watchful eye while she worked the front counter. They still made a lot of ear-splitting noise. They were getting a little ornery this late in the afternoon.

I've been eating here since it was a food wagon. Something has changed in the last couple of years. I'm not sure what it is, but it makes me sad! You could once count on the same fantastic food and flavors EVERY visit. Without fail, you knew it was going to be the best tacos you could get. Over the last year or two that has not been the case. What your experience is going to be seems to swing wildly from one visit to the next. Sometimes the meat is dry, and it doesn't have the same flavor I'd come to expect after eating here for the last 15 years or so. Was looking for more tacos today and this place was next on my list. I'll start by saying man, this is a hole in the wall, and it gives the place charm. It's quaint inside, very welcoming and has a real good old time feel. I got the taco plate with 3 Carne asada tacos, man they were great. Right after I sat down, a gentleman asked if it was my first time here, because he comes here every day! Now that is a happy customer. As for myself, I give it 5/5. Best place I have had in town yet, please come and do yourself (and your belly) a favor!
