STEER CLEAR! Unless you like terrible service, flavorless drinks and subpar Tex Mex. After searching for several places on Google, with great reviews for the best Mexican restaurant in Myrtle Beach, I found Sol y Luna. After reading raving reviews about how great the food and drinks were I was excited to bring our family of 6 to dinner. Upon arrival we were greeted and sat promptly. The server was personable and very sweet. Unfortunately thatās about the only decent part to the entire evening. The restaurant/ bar is on the smaller side maybe sitting 65 people maximum. On the evening we had gone it was around 8:00 pm on a Monday evening. The restaurant was about half full and I only noticed two servers maybe 3 waiting on tables. Our server as sweet as she was, was either new or had way too many tables. I normally give everyone the benefit of the doubt but as the night wore on things just got worse and worse. We asked several questions in regards to portion sizes such as pieces of an appetizer and how many tacos were in the kids meals. Every answer we were given was wrong. When asking for recommendations for a drink we were offered a Mojito. The Pineapple/ Mango Mojito we ordered didnāt have any fresh juices at all. It tasted terrible and seemed to be just a mix of a pineapple and mango liqueurs with a sprig of mint and soda water. The margarita was completely ice and tasted like only store bought margarita mix. As far as the food our daughter ordered shrimp skewers and received shrimp and steak even though she doesnāt eat red meat. The meal was taken away brought back with the one skewer and waited 15 minutes for the second one to arrive. Our youngest daughter ordered the heart stopping burger with French fries. She received it with the yucca fries instead. When I asked for her French fries by the time we received them we were almost done eating and they were literally the greasiest most disgusting fries Iāve ever seen. I never complain but I even told our server she should take them back and see if any of the line cooks would eat that, it was insulting. The food all came out at different times. I had the Hawaiano fajita; our sever brought me my sides for the fajita about 5 minutes after serving half our party and by the time I got my steak pieces/ with 4 shrimp and tons of vegetables my rice and beans were cold. Even after waiting about 15 minutes from the time our first entree came out until the last dish was served our server forgot my tortillas for my fajita which I had to request. I then waited longer to eat. My wife ordered chicken skewers which were okay at best. Our second oldest daughter ordered the birra tacos which we did not enjoy as well, they were greasy and sloppy but not in a good way. At this point so much had gone wrong we couldnāt enjoy really anything about the evening. I worked 15 years in the service industry and understand everyone has their off days but this place took the cake. I am not one to really leave reviews but this establishment was so horrible I felt obligated to warn people about our experience. The drinks, food, service, and even management ( if there is any) all terrible. It only gets better though at this point we have all lost our appetites, are annoyed, and just want to leave. Our server comes over asks how everything is we explain how we didnāt like several things and the reasons why. She politely apologized and asked if weād like boxes. We wrapped up some entrees I figured if I was paying for it Iād rather not waste food. After wrapping the food we asked for the check. Upon reviewing our check I noticed she had not removed our sons kids meal, kids eat free on Mondays as part of their specials. Along with that oversight she also charged us for the fries that came with our daughters burger. At this point I was just getting very annoyed and told her those needed to be adjusted. After every issue no manager ever checked on us, every part of this place is horrible. It was a waste of time and money. If I could give it no stars I would. Thank you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am very happy to report that this matter was handled by management to my satisfaction. I was very pleased how quickly they responded to my concerns. I certainly will be dining here again.
We are regulars here approximately twice a week for happy hour specifically on Thursdays for their $11 burritos. The food is generally very good with great size burritos. Great atmosphere that we have previously enjoyed.
Tonight 4 of us sat at the bar & 2 of our burritos were very dry so we asked the next server in front of us for red sauce for a fajita burrito and white sauce(Queso) for the south western.
When we received the bill, it said āQueso & chips $8 and .75 cents extra dressing/ranch.ā Again, the burrito is $11 so $8 for sauce sounded excessive. The bill said our server was āHannah ā not sure which woman that was since we had 2 servers: the bartender who took our order and one who delivered the food and sauce.
I asked the bartender if chips were part of the meal and free? She said yes they are free so I asked why did I then get charged $8 for Queso & chips on an $11 meal? 70+% of the cost of my meal for sauce. She said āwell you spoke to one of the runners, theyāre just kids and you did not speak to me.ā Except I am speaking with you now. She made NO attempt to make any adjustment on the bill after 2 conversations. She absolutely shrugged it off with a little bit of a face!! I said to her then in the future when the sauce is 70% of the cost of the meal your server should say just that before bringing it to a customer. I can handle the $.75 but $8 for the same size cup as the $.75 cup of sauce is outrageous!!
One of the people in our group of four happens to be a bar/restaurant manager and for a third conversation she very politely said to her ālisten I really think youāre handling this wrong. These are regular customers and I think you should make some sort of adjustment to their bill.ā Her back went up and she said āIām sorry she didnāt speak with me before she ordered the sauce.ā HANDLED VERY POORLY & UNPROFESSIONALLY on her behalf. They may have just 2 or 4 regular customers!!
I truly hope to hear from management if they hope not to lose some very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI donāt know where to begin with my disappoint with your establishment. On 8/9 I called to make a reservation for my birthday celebration. I reserved a table for 12 guests. On Thursday 8/17, I, physically, stopped by the restaurant, to confirm reservation. They didnāt know what I was talking about. I was assured that the reservation for Saturday would be confirmed and put in the book. Last night, was a catastrophe. We arrived at approximately 4:50 an out of the 4/5 young girls at the host stand, not one knew about the reservation and the tables that they had promised me, were already occupied with guests. We were eventually seated around 5:05. By 5.25 the table was still waiting on beverages that were ordered from the bar and not one food order was taken. Our server, Mackenzie was pleasant but was obviously "in the weeds" with our party, as well as other tables in her section. The entrees took a very long time to come out and once everyone was finished we sat with dirty plates/glasses in front of us for a long period of time. We had brought our own bakery cake, which we also provided the candles. Once they brought out the cake, it was up to us to cut and serve it. We asked for coffee and that took about as long as the food did and when it was finally brought out, it was in 16oz "to go" Styrofoam cups. 7 coffees were brought out with one 3 oz plastic cup of milk. We asked for sugar. A caddy was presented with an assortment of artificial sweeteners. Again , we asked for sugar. We were brought small individual cups, the same 3oz cups the milk came in, with sugar. For a 5 o'clock reservation, we were there until about 7:45. The food was not the best but not the worst but the whole dining experience made it a disappointing evening for what was to be a fun celebration. An unacceptable way to operate a business, especially when a reservation was made with prior confirmation. Looking forward to hearing from someone in regards to the lack of communication,...
