First City Café
This is one of my favorite places in Nacogdoches to enjoy a casual meal. Not only is the food very good but the servers go out of their way to insure your needs are fulfilled. Everything on the menu has been tasty and the portions are generous. The view of the lovely pool can enhance your overall relaxation for lunch or dinner.
And a fantastic addition presently is the “Music On The Patio” series. Friday evenings are set aside for various singers to perform on the patio. Last night, March 13, 2020, a charming and quite talented young lady sang to us for three hours. Raquel Rae was fabulous.. There is no extra charge to enjoy the singing and you can also order dinner and drinks on the patio. The weather is so nice to dine en plein air.
Parking at the hotel has never been a problem and the restrooms are kept spotless.
Must give a shout out to Bella who made our evening one to remember. Her suggestion of Shrimp and Grits was accepted and it is a must try here. Gulf shrimp, deveined, delicious and spicy over grits. I will say my meal tasted homemade and I would guess the Chef cooks the grits with a bit of cream. Not my usual dinner selection but well worth the taste to savor...
Read moreI prefer the restaurant how it used to be when they first opened & were consistent with their efforts & upkeeps. The service & food quality have consistently dropped over the last couple years. I was a regular customer when attending SFA & usually like to visit everytime I go back to Nacogdoches as well. The food has just not lived up to its previous quality the past 3-5 times I’ve eaten there. The service is hit or miss. The atmosphere is the only thing that’s stayed consistently great. I wish they would add at least 1-2 vegetarian options or dairy free options. You’re in a college town, there’s bound to be people with special diets. You would expand your customer base. When they first opened, the managers were more open to making tweaks to certain dishes to make them vegetarian, offering a unique & hospitable dining experience. That has long gone from this restaurant unfortunately. Also, the truffle fries are smaller portions & the grease has tasted old the...
Read moreFirst off, if you can get Addy/Ashley from Waco(Robinson to be technical) she's amazing, a total sweetheart, great service, we've gotten her both of our trips and she has not let us down. So my first visit I doubted my date's recommendation of Shrimp & Grits, but I did try his at one point and it was phenomenal. Needless to say, Valentine's Day, I had to get some Shrimp & Grits, they just fill my soul w/ southern joy. I did get I believe the Love Charm Martini (it didn't have any vodka though, which I liked about it) , as you can see the presentation was nice, and I admit, it was yummy. I was glad they left vodka out. The other specialty drink for the day had gin and I don't much like that either. But the atmosphere and style of the remodel is great, and I hear room service is basically from the 1st city kitchen, so feel free to order those Shrimp & Grits straight...
