This hotel is a rip off. They refused to allow me to change my reservation saying it was thru a 3rd party, even though, the website where I made the reservation said thefredonia.com. The reservation receptionist said any reservations can only be changed thru the 3rd party company that made reservations as they are the ones who make or change reservations. So, I called the 3rd party that hotel Fredonia stated the reservation was thru, trying to change my reservation and check in date. After being on hold for an hour while the 3rd party was trying to call the hotel, (getting no answer on the phone), the 3rd party finally got someone at the hotel. The 3rd party came back on the line and said they were told the hotel wouldn’t let me change the reservation because “no one was there who could change reservations. They could only make reservations but not change them”. Huh? So I called the hotel, thinking surely the 3rd party misunderstood. The hotel receptionist said her manager wouldn’t be in until tomorrow and she can’t change reservations without talking to managers. She said no one there has authority to change reservations they could only make reservations”. I explained to the receptionist that if we wait till tomorrow to call, I will be charged for the dates I need to change. I’m calling 48 hours in advance now. If I wait till tomorrow it will be too late to change without being charged”. She said “yeah that’s just how it is”. I explained to her I’m calling before the deadline so I do not want to be stuck paying for it, since I’m making sure to call before the deadline. I asked if she could make a note that I called before the deadline and she said “no, you can just talk to managers tomorrow.” She said “the only thing you can do is call back tomorrow but yes you will have to still pay for the room for the night you were supposed to check in.” When I asked the receptionist, “okay, when I don’t show up on Thursday, my original check in date, will my reservation still be available on Friday where I can check in then and access my room? She said “no your room will be cancelled and you’ll still be charged because you didn’t show up for your original check in date on Thursday.” That makes no sense. Hotels change reservations all of the time. Plus, I’m going by the hotels own policy of changing my reservation in advance of the deadline. I called the 3rd party back and they were even surprised that we couldn’t change a reservation because of the excuse “no one with authority is here to change it”. I told the receptionist, we stay here once a month but I will never take my business back there. She was rude and unhelpful to say the least. I’m now going to be stuck paying for a reservation we are not even going to be able to use. We try to support the local businesses in Nacogdoches when we have to be there every month. We will not make the mistake of staying here again. I cancelled the reservation and will take my business...
Read moreStayed at The Fredonia on 8/25/17 while visiting family in East Texas. Arrived at 10 PM after driving 4 hours from Austin with my girlfriend and our small (16 pound) dog. Upon checking in, we were told by "operations manager" Adam that we had not booked a "pet friendly" room and that no "pet friendly" rooms were available. I then produced my booking receipt which was sent to me directly from the hotel. The terms of the booking show that the booking was indeed pet friendly with a $25 fee which we were happy to pay as well as a $100 deposit. Adam, even after reading the terms aloud with me, insists that we did not book a pet friendly room and asks if we called the hotel to confirm that we had. Why would we ever call the hotel when we have a clear invoice explaining exactly what we agreed upon when booking the room on the hotel's own website, which in multiple places advertises them as pet friendly? Adam then says that in order to stay in the room we already booked, we would be charged an extra $100 because we had a dog, plus the agreed upon $25 pet fee. At this point we discussed driving on to our destination and waking my 90 year up grandmother up so we would have a place to stay instead of paying $100 extra because the argumentative night manager is refusing to honor the booked rate. Overhearing this, Adam offers to cut the extra $100 to $50 and we agree so that we can just get to bed. After such a big deal was made about allowing us to bring a dog into one of the rooms that was now deemed not pet friendly, we would expect the room to be immaculate and luxurious. Not so much, it is remodeled but far from noteworthy. There was food from prior guests on the floor. Free wifi was advertised but no password was listed. Room service was listed as an option but no menus were in the room. The walls and door are very thin and guests in neighboring rooms arriving after coming in from the lobby bar were easily heard in our room throughout the night. These are mostly small things that we never would have thought or complained about had the manager not given us so much trouble and made us seem like a burden for...
Read moreI hesitated to write this review because I jealously want to keep this gem to myself. I travel all the time for leisure and business and this is now my favorite hotel experience in Texas! Everything here was fantastic; the front desk was friendly and took genuine care in helping me choose a room that matched my preferences, the lobby and restaurant decor somehow feels simultaneously fresh and vintage 1950's, my room had a perfectly appointed spa shower and the luxe quality of the pillows and sheets was a surprise for what was such a reasonably priced local stop. Just a couple steps from my door was an adorable bird's nest fire pit and quiet turquoise-sparkling pool area that I had to myself to dip my feet in the pool and then warm up by the whimsical retro 50's lawn furniture. And the food - I loved how all the menu items have a home-made local flavor, Texas interpretation. I recommend the chicken cobb salad because the crispy candied(?) bacon lardons, roasted corn, jack cheese, ripe avocado and perfectly seasoned grilled chicken really made a pedestrian safe-choice lunch item next level. I had planned to go out for dinner, but the room service tempted me since lunch was so great. The staff was sweet to even assist me in ordering an item not on the room service menu. I had the lemon chicken, garlic mash potatoes and sauteed green beans. The lemon and garlic sauce drizzled over elevated everything. The decor of the room was lovely in each detail from the retro chartreuse velvet bolster pillow which matched the artwork, to the old-fashioned dressing table with nicely lighted oval mirrors. The room was a perfect fusion of nods to the 50's period, but with some luxe updates for comfort. I can't believe this little boutique gem was at such a great price point! If you are a traveler like me, who is often suspicious of a local inn and often stays in the big name branded properties just to avoid an uncomfortable experience, THIS is the soothing...
