My mother and I were leaving the Naperville CarMax around 8pm on 8/10/24 and we were getting hungry. I googled food in the area and nothing peaked my interest, so I narrowed my search and typed tacos near me. Guzman y Gomez popped up on the feed. The food from the photos looked pretty good, so we decided to take the 10 min drive over to restaurant. We pulled up to the menu and took a few mins to review it. From the online reviews everyone loved the food, I knew I was going to get the horchata for sure-somebody said it was good! So we placed our order. Mom got the burrito bowl w/chicken meal with fries and a lemonade and I got two crunchy tacos, (one chicken, one gd beef) meal with fries and a horchata. The young man Alejandro, who took our order was patient allowing us time to get our order just right.
In no time, our food was ready. We received our food, parked and went into the lobby. Mom went inside to use the restroom and met the kind manager ( "little" Jorge ) and his wife upon entering she said they were very kind.
Mom came over to me as I was helping myself to the salsa bar. I snacked on the yummy fries as I loaded my taco with the green sauce (mild), red sauce (medium) and jalapenos as my taco already had cilantro, onions and cheese on it. I noticed, I wanted sour cream, so I asked the lovely attendant who was diligently behind the food stations for some sour cream. This kind young woman (Mico) I believe her name was, gave me a cup of chilled sour cream with a smile and went on to fulfilling orders. That day there was a young man and a young woman diligently working on orders, that acknowledged me when I approached the counter to request the sour cream.
After receiving the sour cream, I went back to the bar to finish getting condiments. Mom said, "be careful, the last sauce (habanero) one is very hot." She has a low tolerance for heat. We left the restaurant and went to the car to eat b/c we wanted to watch a movie while we ate.
We found a movie and began eating our dinner. Upon first bite, the flavors were OUTSTANDING. Like nothing I have ever tasted. The sauces were a perfect complement to the overall flavors. The two sauces I had, were mild and medium heat and were very good. Next time I will put on more. I was testing it out for my tolerance for heat! Next time I'll try the habanero. Mom liked her burrito bowl and was raving about how good it was too!! My horchata was perfection and mom said she liked her lemonade.
As we were eating, we happened upon the manager (Jorge) who was walking by. He happened to ask us how our meal was. We exclaimed and raved for 2 or 3 mins about how fresh and tasty the food was!!! He was so kind, informative, and gracious to us. GOD BLESS all those who work at this location, its evident they work hard to provide the best quality of services and food.
We will definitely come back! I have my sights set on breakfast, desserts, and on trying habanero sauce and ordering the queso and chips. Come, Come, Come ALL! You will not be disappointed.
Signed,
Satisfied and full customers from Chicago. See...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was starving and wanted to try this place, and since i was traveling that way, i went in to grab a Burrito. I looked up at the menu, and i already saw a warning sign, they had no steak. I asked the girl behind the register, and she confirmed no steak. I should have walked out then and there, but i decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and i ordered Chicken. The total came out to 8.40. The food came quickly and when i looked in the bag, another sign of fail, this was the smallest "burrito" ever. Also, no sauces in the bag. Still i was banking on that even though small, it might be packed with awesome flavor. I was so wrong. I bit into this " burrito", and was met with a very strange taste. There was some sauce in there that tasted bad. I took another bite and was met with a bunch of mushy, horrible rice with no chicken but like 3 pieces in the whole "Burrito". Just to reiterate, I was starving, and it was still terrible. I am someone who hates throwing away food and will try to finish things even if it isnt great. I tossed this "burrito" and went to a REAL Mexican Restaurant(which is also right down the street)and got a REAL burrito for almost the same price.
Taco bell is more mexican than this horrible place. I mean, they have a combo with fries. Seriously? I will NEVER go here again, and I hope people wise up and stop going there. Just go to Chipotle if you want a fake burrito with rice in it. Its right down the street, and the portion is twice the size. I wish i could give them negative stars. In that lot, just go to Culvers. Culvers food is...

Not sure about all the 5 star reviews of this place (friends & family?), but sorry - just can't see how that is deserved here. Apparently this chain had nice success in Australia but - it's a different game here guys. We have actual Mexicans from Mexico who know how to tear it up on the food - including horchata, which GyG does not have?!?!?!
More, we don't really want to hear that "we don't use ice in our margaritas in Australia" as an excuse for not doing that here.
And if it's a grand opening promo trying to get some new fans, why are you nickle & diming folks on condiments etc - it's called "sampling" and I would venture to guess that giving away some small bites will be a helluva lot cheaper than all the major advertising you'll need to purchase to convince people your food is better than the nearby competition (including Chipotle across the street - it's not better, and certainly not cheaper).
Finally, time will tell on how this Oz/Mex joint fares - and their drive-through is something only one of the other nearby places has - but if were to bet on them vs. Chipotle or the others going the distance ... even with all their investor money providing a cushion, I still wouldn't bet on them being around for a real...
