I want to preface this review with a few things. My family and I live a few towns over from Naples and visit Rick's at least 2 or 3 times a summer, and we have never had a negative experience. For that reason alone, I am giving this review 3 stars. Everyone at the table has worked in the food service industry for long periods of time, so for that reason we understand how difficult it can be and have empathy for anyone working in the industry now.
Because we have been here frequently, I can tell you almost certainly that it was not busy compared to how it can be some nights. That being said, our party of 6 (5 adults and a 2-year-old) were seated quickly. We had absolutely no problems with that part of our service or our food.
After discussing the meal together after we got home it seemed we all had the same feeling about our waitress from the beginning. She was timely with our requests, but she was always curt and unenthusiastic when addressing us. She just seemed completely uninterested in our table despite us being friendly to her. It came off as quite rude, but she could have been having a bad day, so we all brushed it off in the moment.
At the end of the meal my cousin wanted to beat us to the bill, so he handed her some cash. It was not enough to cover everything, but rather than saying "Ok I'll be back with rest of the bill" or something to that effect, she said "Um...I think the bill's a little more than that," rather irritably. He explained that he knew, but to bring the bill for the rest. Instead of doing this, she handed us back the cash and got the full bill. Again, we were taken aback, but we moved back to our conversation. When we paid for the meal, she announced to the table how much change was left over. At this point we all agreed that wasn't the best thing for her to do for several reasons and were more unhappy with her service.
The final tip we left was not 20%. This is not something any of us normally do. However, we all agreed the service was not deserving of a 20% tip. On our way out the waitress stopped us after counting her tip (another server faux pas). She asked if there was anything wrong with the food, and we all said no because the food was great. What she didn't seem to understand was that the tip is not really supposed to be about the food, but to reward great service. Finally, as we were walking away, the waitress said to us "I deserved at least $20." This absolutely floored all of us. It was unbelievable that she had the audacity to dictate to her customers how much she deserved for a tip. None of us could understand how or why she thought it was acceptable for her to say this to her customers. It is unprofessional, immature, and just plain rude. My family and I were discouraged by this because we enjoy going to Ricks in the summer, especially because there aren't very many good restaurants in the area. We all hope this can be rectified, but after a flippant response from the manager when we called afterward, we have low...
Read moreI’m Writing this to warn people about this owner who’s clearly in denial. If you scroll far enough past his spam alternate accounts he’s made to make his restaurant look good you can see all the true, honest reviews about ricks this year with the new owner and system. after switching owners in 2022 this place has gone drastically downhill with what the owner likes to call “the much needed improvements.” Let me start off by mentioning the new billing system which requires you to have a phone in order to eat here. Everything is online so there is no such thing as a waiter or waitress. They’ve become technicians for people who aren’t new to the system. And with this system they automatically add 20% to the bill so you don’t “have to tip” so if you ordered 100$ worth of food they automatically add an extra 20$. But even then your asked if you want to tip. The second thing I’ll mention is the quality of food. Let’s just say it’s no longer as good as it use to be. The Third thing I’ll add is the excessive amount of excuses he’s made for why food might’ve not been as good. One of the comments someone mentions food being cold, (which is fine it’s happens if it’s stays on the counter too long) but there really was no apology from the owner and his response to the comment was “sometimes the breeze from the lake comes into the kitchen which is way food gets cold quicker.) and with all that being said my final message for anyone checking to see if this place is good, just don’t come here. They don’t deserve it and they need a better owner. (I’m here just to give an honest and constructive review about...
Read moreI have gone to Rick's for years. Over the past few years I've slowly watched it go downhill. This will be the last year that I ever go there. Their new online ordering system is terrible. To give you an idea, we put it in order for two appetizers the nachos showed up and the person dropped it on the table and walked off. We had no silverware no napkins no side plates. Then when we finally received all that stuff. Ate our nachos . Quite a bit of time passed and our order came out with the second appetizer. I sent my dinner back because I wanted the appetizer first. That is why it's called an appetizer. I was told that they would make a new one and bring it out in about 10 minutes. Almost a half an hour past still nothing. When we finally grabbed someone she went to the kitchen brought it right out. They did not make a new order they refried the scallops. If you know anything about food service and I was a chef for many years you cannot refry fried scallops. Because we have no waitress because everything is online including your ordering, I had to take the grease soap scallops up to the hostess. This place has turned into a complete disaster. By the way they automatically put in a tip. It turned out to be a complete Fiasco in order to get the scallops off my bill. I will never be back here again. I noticed that it was not as busy as it has been in the past and no one can figure out that the restaurant is doing...
