I happened to be in the vicinity getting my groceries when I noticed a bright yellow sign that caught my attention. I went to check it out thinking it was a new Breakfast place and was pleasantly surprised it was Indian Street Food that had great vegetarian AND non vegetarian options.
Inside it was really very open and inviting but I especially loved the self-service filtered water station tucked away in a little corner. I asked for recommendations and the staff was extremely helpful in helping me narrow down a chicken dish with gravy and so I ordered the Chicken Kadai. It comes with either rice or 2 pieces of roti.
Every dish is cooked to order and served to your table. So I got to enjoy all the various aromas while waiting. The restaurant started getting more patrons and everyone were Indian so I knew this meal was going to be authentic and not "Americanized"
The portion of my Chicken curry was very generous and I now know that I'd need a lot more Roti next time bcos they were extremely delicious and just not enough 😆 to share. The yellow saffron rice was very fragrant!
IMPORTANT: I absolutely loved that the curry was full of spices and cooked with VERY LOW SALT! Too many restaurants throw in so much sodium and it's really unhealthy. Here you can just add salt according to your taste or eat it as is with all the flavor from the spices.
5* is not enough, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND checking out this...
Read moreI was honestly very excited for this place since I was recommended by a friend. When we got in, the cashier was talking to someone else, and upon greeting her she didn’t greet back and just asked what I wanted. I got the chicken butter masala for $15. In all of the Indian places I’ve been to, this meal comes with its rice, naan, and the chicken. However in this location it was just the chicken with either the rice, and not even naan because all they have is sandwich bread. Moreover, the drinks are just canned drinks, there is no refill. So that way you have to keep buying more and more drinks. After ordering I ended up paying $18.55 for chicken butter masala, rice, and a can of coke, which if you ask me is ridiculous. It doesn’t stop there, when the food arrived the chicken masala was on a frozen plate, and the rice was cold. I basically paid for overpriced frozen food. I had to ask them to heat up the rice because it was inedible, and the only flavor the chicken had was from the outside sauce, because it was super plain in the inside. Overall it pains me to say it but I don’t think you should eat here, unless you like frozen food. Oh and also, there were no real ceramic plates, just a to go box without the lids and paper plates. Super disappointed and would not...
Read moreI am sad to say that this place genuinely disappointed me. The food was not particularly bad but it wasn't great either; just okay. Thia place draws inspiration from and tries to replicate the egg food stalls of Surat, Gujrat in India - a place I have visited many times and lived in - making this review a bit personal.
Based on what we ordered, the technique with which the food was made was good, bjt the biggest problem was the overall lack of flavor. Indian street food is famous for being full of flavor and the heart of Indian cuisine. The fact that neither my friends nor I could really taste any particular spices left the food feeling hollow. An additional problem was the lack of difference (pretty much just absence) in heat level 5 and 10. Indian food is supposed to be spicy, but not everyone can handle the same amount. No difference in heat levels results in people being unsatisfied.
The service was nothing really of note. You order at the counter, get a table number and receive your food when its ready. Neither good nor bad.
If you don't really care about spiciness and just want to know what this subset of Indian cuisine is like, go for it. My friend told me the location in Chicago is much better, but I will probably...
