I only wish I could rate this zero stars or less than zero. Just had one of the worst dining experiences of my considerable lifetime. We had intended to use a coupon from the coupon booklet we purchased from our grandson. I guess I should have known better if an established restaurant is still resorting to these types of coupons to drive business. In any case it was a Saturday night and the restaurant and bar were both lightly busy. The coupon said it could not be used with any other offers or discounts - a fairly common restriction. Our server was a young Asian woman whose spoken English was ok but her full understanding was somewhat limited. After verifying that our coupon was "in date" she proceeded to tell us that happy hour was until 7:00pm. My wife and I ended up ordering 2 individual rounds of well drinks which the menu indicated were part of happy hour. We ordered 2 entrees with mine being a combo of shrimp & scallops which was not listed on the menu but according to our server could be ordered for an extra dollar over the cost of the shrimp alone. I also ordered hot and sour soup - it turned out to be mostly spicy hot without much flavor otherwise. My wife's beef dish was over done and not very good. My shrimp and scallops were very good. When it came time for the bill, another woman who identified herself as the manager came to our table and explained that we could not have both a happy hour discount on liquor and a coupon discount on our meals as this constituted 2 discounts. We told her the server had not pointed this out despite our presenting our coupon at the time we ordered. She was not persuaded. I pointed out that we could have gone to the bar, had our drinks, closed out our tab, and proceeded to go to the restaurant and ordered dinner with our coupon - she was unpersuaded. She told us she was unable to make any changes to our bill as the computer system was in complete control of the restaurant. I then made the observation to her that it did not appear that as a manager she had any authority to do anything - she essentially agreed with me. I then asked her who the owner of Fulins was and she refused to tell me. By this time I had already decided that Hell would freeze over prior to my next visit to Fulins and I informed her that we would take the happy hour discount as it was slightly better than the coupon. She proceed to ask if we were ok with that and we responded that we were not but it appeared that that was the best we were going to be able to do. Subsequently the server brought us the bill. They had in fact removed 2 of the 4 drinks from our bill, but they had charged us for drink doubles - something that was never requested or discussed with our server. They had also charged us a $4 upcharge for my scallops - I believe that worked our to a dollar a piece. The server returned to the table and we immediately requested the manager. The manager was a little more agreeable this time and took off the double drink upcharges and reduced the dinner upcharge to the stated $1. I was in the process of finalizing the credit card receipt when the server returned to the table to argue with my wife and I that she had told me that my dinner upcharge would be "dollars"(plural - her explanation), not dollar, singular. I pointed out to her that most people who ask want to know a little more specifically than "dollars" . We told her she needed to improve her command of English and to own her mistakes - she continued to argue that she did not make a mistake. Although I did in fact leave a tip, I adjusted it commensurate with the servers final interaction with us. I will never be returning to this restaurant. If you are reading this review and decide to patronize Fulins anyway, I would recommend getting a written, signed contract from the manager prior to ordering lest you encounter the same frustration...
Read moreIt is expensive for chinese food, BUT it's the only good non-buffet Chinese that we've found close to us since Tang's closed (that we dearly miss!), so it's worth it for us on special occasions. The food is great, but what spurred me to finally write a review was our awesome server last night, Mike. We had our 3 and 5 year old with us who were quickly devouring the 'crunchies' (I don't know what those things are called) with the duck sauce. So Mike brought the sweet and sour chicken out first knowing it was for the kids, so they could get a head start before filling up on the crunchies. Then, seeing me trying to clean up the sticky sauce off the boys, he brought me extra napkins and a damp towel! He was constantly by for refills and to take empty plates.
Granted, it was not a busy night so he had the time to give us the extra attention, but it was the specific things he did to help with the kids that I loved- I've never gotten that much help from a server before. We tipped extra good that night! But even on other nights are service has always been good.
FYI- For 3 entrees (chicken, $12 ea), 1 soup, 1 egg roll, 4 crab rangoons and 2 soft drinks our total was $55 before tip, and we have enough left overs for most of a meal...
Read moreIve been traveling all day im very hungry. I ordered food to go... OK, i tried to eat it. The appetizer platter was probably the worst Asian food I've ever had - inedible ribs, chicken dripping with some oil and tasted very odd, the spring roll was stale tasting and the shrimp smelled off.
I called the manager and she was very abrupt at first. I explained that I didnt like the food and she got very defensive. At first didnt offer any resolution because I had already eaten the food, i ate enough to know it was bad. I asked if it was possible to get a refund, the response was very rude and so absolute!!! She offered me a discount card off a future meal. I told her I'm traveling through and would not use it, she said theres nothing she could do for me. I told her even a pizza place would offer a refund, her response was we are not one of those resturants.
And she didnt care that I would write a review. ...
