OMGness!!!! This place did not disappoint. We were in town visiting family for the first time and we found this place via an app. I am NOT a fan of Spicy food and I had no idea that's what this place prides it's self on (yes, the sign says Hot Hattie B's Chicken but I didn't know then, that it had to do with spice). Nonetheless we still ate there. I ordered a Lg White Mild a breast and wing quarter (giving no attention to Southern, ie no heat on the menu) and my husband ordered Lg White Hot which I was shocked, because he backed off of damn hot! Because the plates come with 2 sides I orderd french fries and collard greens (I'm picky about collards and I am pleased to say that these were delicious), and my husband, french fries and the Pimento Mac-N-Cheese, DELISH! We ordered our meal and mild was spicy enough for me, hot, not enough for my husband yet, everything was delicious. Other than my mother's home fried chicken, I haven't had a single piece of chicken (ok maybe one other time) that was as delicious as this chicken. White meat, my chicken of choice was very tender, not dry at all not even after I reheated it. It took us 3 days to eat all of our chicken because we didn't expect such large poritions of meat. My husband ordered a Root Beer float that he enjoyed and I ordered the Peach Cobbler w/ more crust than peaches, YUM!!!! There is a local restaurant where I am from and I declare that there couldn't be another place in the world that makes a Peach Cobbler that tops their everyday made in house by the same little old lady and I couldn't have been more wrong. Hot Hattie B's Peach Cobbler was like heaven in my mouth. I know a good Peach Cobbler when I taste one and this one, well it tops the charts and blows the roof off of good and it didn't even need the scoop of ice cream I thought would come with it (I was happy it didn't). This place does offer free parking but I am sure parking is a pain in the butt on a crazy busy day. We stood in line for about 20-25 minutes waiting to order and we waited for about 15 minutes for our food. We expected a line as it is Nashville, Tennessee. Once we entered the establishment we noticed it was pretty small on the inside but to our surprise there was additional seating outside which made the experience even more pleasant and homely. We ended up sitting on the inside as it wasn't a blistering hot day so many of the outside seats were taken and there wasn't a spot availble other than near a large group of drunk college aged girls traveling with 2 guys (so annoying) so inside we sat. We enjoyed this place and we would refer friends and family to this location as the staff was super friendly, the food was hot, fres, plentiful and just as...
Read moreWe went to three locations, and this is the only one without a huge line. So we went twice in a week.
A buddy and I, first timers, we like hot food and are from the Southwest. I got a half chicken little dark ... they each come with 2 sides. Luckily, the sides are small because it ended up being a lot of food.
When they delivered the hottest 'What the cluck', a couple of the food runners came to look at the 'out of towners' who obviously didn't know...
We went right to work on the 'What the cluck'. It was hot... really hot. I hung in there while the back of my head started sweating, my nose started running, and my eyes didn't water but got really itchy. I know better than to rub my eyes at this point because I had red hot oil on both hands. I started a pile of clean paper towels to do the job and prayed I didn't get any in my eyes. Dinner gloves would have been a good option here.
I needed a second beer and mustered as much courage and composure as I could to approach the counter to order. Inside, I was a little bit of pannick. Outside, I was probably slightly red but calm. Thankfully, the beer came quickly.
Feeling like the hero I was for navigating the task of 'getting a beer,' I returned triumphantly and reluctantly to the table to finish the lava coated chicken.
The sides helped. We got mac, greens, black-eyed pea salad, and red potatoes. The flavor of the chicken helped, too! Not just hot... but great flavor!
We finished the chicken and wiped our hands a dozen more times. Issued each other warnings about washing before peeing. Discussed the strategy for the impending Sting Ring. (I suggested putting Dude Wipes in the freezer)
The counter folks checked on us twice. 🤣 I was glad that I went all in on the 'What the cluck'. Most places wouldn't serve that to the public. I've had hotter food but never from a chicken place.
A week later, I returned to this location with other friends. We ordered the medium. Still great service and food. Great spice, but it's much easier to eat. . . And besides, we were getting on the road. There's no place to keep the...
Read moreCatching up on reviewing favorite places I've been, especially with COVID hitting restaurants pretty hard, I felt compelled to share my experience at those like Hattie B's that left memorable impressions on me. Pre-COVID, my hubby and I were making a trip through TN to enjoy a long weekend vacay from NC. After watching a few food shows on Netflix and talking about it with foodie coworkers on our #food slack channels, I'd heard about Nashville hot chicken. It seemed like it was especially unique to the area and so we made a trip to see what it was about. There was a little bit of a line when we pulled up. Not so surprisingly, we expected it to be busy given its reputation. So we admired the chicken painted decor outside while we waited. When we finally got inside, it took a minute to digest the menu, and figure out what we wanted to eat. When we found the hot chicken sandwiches on the menu, it was time to also decide what heat level we wanted. The way the heat levels were broken out made me giggle from "Southern" no heat, "Mild" touch of heat, "Hot!" feel the heat, "Medium" warming up, "Damn Hot!! Firestarter or my fave "Shut the Cluck Up!!!" burn notice. Given we were far away from home and had taken pups who were waiting for us back at our hotel for us, I didn't commit to trying the "shut the cluck up" spice level in case my tummy had a bad reaction to it and opted for the next hottest instead with Damn Hot. I'd tried extreme spicy food challenges in the past and over time I began to develop gut issues from it so I felt compelled to take it easy this time around. It was delicious and still had a lot of heat to it! Not to mention, when I shared my experience on insta, the folks who manage their social media accounts were very engaged and supportive of the level of enthusiasm we shared with friends commenting on our experience. We literally swung through town with the number one intent of trying hot chicken, so it was a very notable gesture for us and meant a lot that they cared to hear how their fans felt about their experience with them. Would definitely...
