This is my update to an older Las Palmas rating. My last one in 2016 was very disappointing, and I was reluctant to come back. However, we were in a bind and wanted Mexican, so here we are.
I give a lot of 5 star ratings, but I still can't give them a 5 star. I used to love the old Las Palmas back from 2000-2010, but what happened???
This location was clean and the service was great. The food was also decent. The salsa could use some work, but not a huge deal. The cheese dip was good, but tiny.
Where they went wrong was this outrageously priced menu. You can go to Uncle Julio's, Sopapilla's, Garcia's, or Whiskey Kitchen downtown for these prices. Not exaggerating... my wife hosted a business lunch at Uncle Julio's the next day and the entrees were cheaper! And the whole "non-grilled protein" thing did not feel right. Confusing, like they are trying to get you hooked on the meal, then mention "oh you want meat with that? It'll be $3 more!". I could go without that nonsense.
They seem to be out of their niche here. Dropping $60 with my wife, two kids and only one beer during happy hour felt like a kick in the pants. That same meal should be more like $45, tip and all.
To summarize, the food was good, but not high-end nice as the prices suggested. It's been 3 years since I've been there, and at least my overall experience was better than last time. Not going back, too many...
Read moreJuan was our server. We went at 430p and happy hour was at 5 so we were prepared to wait on drinks. Half off margaritas. Juan said its fine to order and honor half off. We ordered a pitcher. Very weak and too much sour mix. We get food and order a strawberry pitcher. Then the 3rd pitcher is mango. It has no alcohol in it. It's very sugar and just not good. We ask to replace it with the lime. He brings our checks... there's no happy hour and we each are paying 27 a pitcher.. I ask for a manager and Juan says "How much you want to pay?" I said "let's go with the menu price?" He takes payment from the other 2 parties first to ensure they pay the full price of them... and then takes half off mine. I tip accordingly, as does one of my friends. The other, knowing he was ripped off and had given the fellow a chance to right himself.. didn't tip at all! The server Juan made a big scene at our table asking loudly "You're not going to add tip?" My friend left the w of us.. and we were both made to feel as though we were not welcome. We both did tip, though now I feel none of us should have and I'll never visit this location again. I've been a server. I have never acted so entitled.. its...
Read moreAnyone that knows me knows that I eat out a lot. I don’t mind spending money and I’m a great tipper but today I gave a big fat zero every time I come here they always ask me. Do I want the lunch menu? Do I want rice and beans and I say yes, and then they charge you For the rice of beans you only get one side, which is stupid because it’s the cheapest thing on earth that you could possibly provide, but they always up charge me and discharge me so today she told me it was after three and then I got the dinner price so I got the small chimichanga But by the time they were done, it was $17 I asked for sour cream and they gave me this little tiny 2 ounce of a cup and then charge me a dollar again not the greatest food. It’s not bad. It’s just it’s good. It’s OK but the thing about it they always throw the food down and never come back and ask if you’re OK And then just to be dollar dollar dollar every time I come there it’s frustrating so I made the decision today to never come back. I’ve been there 50 times....
