This coffee shop could have easily been a 5/5 but I’ve some strong reasons for a solid 3.5/5 (-0.5) basic: I paid $4.25 for a plain croissant and they had no decent way of heating it up other than putting it in an microwave and making it soggy AF. I don’t have any problems when coffee shops charge you a premium for simple bakery items or coffee, but I do expect a high quality product in those cases. I mean, just buy an air fryer, before you start charging a premium for bakery items so you can at least warm them up without screwing up the taste. (-0.5) $$: they are charging slightly more than most of the cafes I’ve been to in Nashville with an exception of a few that go above them. (-0.5) location: it’s not a great location. Parking is free however there’s a wood work shop right next door and you can find gravel/stones lying around in the parking area. (Neutral) staff: they aren’t the friendliest of all people. No one was rude, however. Apart from these, I must say, the coffee was top-notch; one of the best espresso I’ve had in Nashville. I got the Cortado over ice (iced espresso with oat milk) and it was out of this world. They do have avocado toast on their menu for $10 The coffee was good enough to make me give them another chance, so I might go there again and see if my experience is different but it won’t be my go-to place.

I will be back for sure! Really great variety for food and drinks! Food/Drink quality for price: YES! Bagel sandwich was hot and tasty, with tea they give you loose leaf so you can refill with more hot water. Atmosphere: clean cut and friendly, love the wooden floors Noise level: typical for coffee shop, music was quiet Lighting: lots of windows! Warm lamps over individual tables are great for reading/writing Staff: Super friendly! Reviews from 2021 are mixed for staff (8 positive and 8 negative from people with fewer than 25 reviews) but I had a great time and staff seem to be having fun! No issues there whatsoever. Cleanliness: very clean, tables are wiped down after each visit. Seating: 26 wooden chairs, 20 wooden stools Outlets: 12 sets (2 sockets each), not easily accessible for chairs and stools in center WiFi: good! Car parking: Yes! Thought it was funny that markings say "15 MIN", usually they say "15 MAX" for to go order people, but these people want you to stay and relax! Bike parking: none ): lean against metal railing on parking lot side Nashville Scene magazine available here!

NASHVILLE COFFEE TOUR #1: My friend and I tour different coffee places around Nashville that are new to me. ☕ We had a good experience overall. It was a well-lit, intimate coffee shop. The bar was a great place to converse and people watch. I had an Americano while my friend had a Latte. We both enjoyed the coffee for its freshness and size. The espresso leans towards the greener notes that people tend to favor in Nashville that it's not my fave, but I did like it. I do personally love a dark roast (scandalous!) but can definitely enjoy a well-roasted cup of coffee! ❤ Bestie had an egg sandwich that was pretty good, but I wasn't truly paying attention to cost and the details. The bagels are impressively made there and they were really good! I had a fantastic blueberry muffin! The staff could be friendlier and less condescending, but everyone is entitled to his own snarkiness every once in a while so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. We felt like we were a little too joyful to be there! If I was in the area, I would stop in to grab a cup, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

First I want to start by saying I've been a regular at retrograde since it opened. I've used the rewards multiple times and I frequent the place. It's clean, beautiful and would recommend the shagbark latte to everyone. The drinks are high quality, smoothies and coffees alike.

The reason I'm only giving two stars is because of the vegan food options, which right now consist of taking ONE item on the menu and removing goat cheese and it's pretty much lettuce and avocado on bread $9. That sucks guys. That's not a real meal and you used to have amazing vegan empanadas like falcon that I'm dumbfounded you got rid of. It's 2019 and with the competition in Nashville I have no idea why this isn't thought of in your shop.

In the time of having local businesses like Behive, Rose Gold Vegan Bakery, Falcon, and Morsel I urge you to do some research, improve these options and get more real, filling vegan snacks and food. I noticed you have a charcuterie plate, maybe check out the one at The Fox that's absolutely incredible and all vegan. People travel far and wide for that plate. I have multiple friends that won't go back because of this reason and I've started going less becaus there's no real vegan meals or snacks.

I've been a loyal customer but I'm starting to go less and less because of this! If the menu improves and these changes are made I'll be back to frequent and give 5 stars. Ty so much, please give this some honest thought because it will really...

Look at my history it's rare for me to leave bad reviews.

The coffee was okay. The cappuccino I ordered was not very frothy so it was more like a latte. The taste was good though.

The service was below par. The two baristas were not very kind. In fact, they both separately decided to lecture me for filling up my water. After the first guy told me I should have asked for the water I said "okay my bad, I appreciate your help" and then the barista ignored me because he was upset I filled up my water? I had to say thank you three times to elicit a response from the barista because he was mad at me for filling the water on my own even though that's how almost every shop does it. Then, the second barista I guess decided the first guy had all the fun and he wanted to lecture me too. So he chimed in with "you should have just asked us for water" like okay guy my bad y'all were busy and I didn't want to bother y'all.

Also, now that I'm being critical of this place, the baristas never bothered to ask me how I was doing or anything. It was just the classic "what can I get for you" with no intro at all. They weren't busy either. I just wanted to make a little small talk while I got my order but these baristas had that whole "I'm a barista so I'm better than you vibe." Why does that seem so common?

I won't be coming here again. Too many good shops around to spend my money somewhere where it doesn't...

When I first happened upon Retrograde it was a cold (frigid) (biting) January afternoon. super grey. I typed it in on a whim mainly because it was Mercury Retrograde and it felt serendipitous in the exploration of the city. I saw it and it felt like this beacon in the middle of a neighborhood that is wanting love and that is what it is, the love of a good solid neighborhood. A community oriented neighborhood with Retrograde as its beaconess. When I walked up the windows in perfect form were fogged so it looked like I was happening upon this world away from worlds with its own set of ideas and its safe and inviting warmth where you could take a minute and sit in its magic. That is what I felt there. I ordered a tea and was given the sweetest little wooden tray that I would only get in a pinterest ad for the luxury bath dream of my next century ideas. My sister and I have always liked to check out the various details of places and when we get to the bathroom that is when you can tell how thorough for Retrograde the bathroom is the peak of design it's got gold flecked floors and the appearance matches the rest of the intentional space that you just want to spend your Saturday doing crossword puzzles and talking to your friends about your whole life. Of the times I went in there so far I heard the music that was so prime and I got stuff done because it felt safe. Try Retrograde,...
