Great restaurants are about two things: Family and great food. Sal's serves both better than anyone. My family and I stopped by when we were in town for my father's funeral. Being from out of town, we'd heard good things, so we indulged. For hours, we sat, enjoyed memories along with great food and thoroughly enjoyed both. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked, smelled, and I'm sure if I'd have sampled, tasted PHENOMENAL! But how they treated people is what makes Sal's most special. When our dinner was done, Brooke, approached me about how checks should be split. My uncle had told all of us that, since we hadn't seen each other in years, he wanted to treat everyone. In explaining that to Brooke, and that we were there for the funeral of my father, and their brother, she promised some desert on the house. Trying to be good, I thanked her, but said we shouldn't eat it. She said, "Then you'll just have to take them to go." She brought us massive amounts of desert, comped, that allowed us to extend our special time, and enjoy more unbelievable food. A day and a half later, an aunt of mine went back on her way out of town so she could try other items. While there, she explained how generously we were treated a few nights before. She, for some reason, showed a picture of my late dad to the staff so they'd see who their top shelf treatment was honoring. As it turns out, they recognized him by name as a regular. Knowing that, I'm glad my dad was well taken care of every time he visited, and I'm sure that we were meant to stop by a place that treated our family, and I'm sure every family, like their own. Sal, sir, whoever you are, if you read this, Thank you! You took as good a care of us as you did my dad for years. Your restaurant knows how to treat people like family, and you all make such amazing food. We're all very grateful for everything you shared, and can't wait to visit again some...
Read moreI am originally from Brooklyn and grew up with the real stuff. So I was hoping that this would be close to what I am used to. But sadly, this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. I went to try this place out for lunch just only yesterday. I only wanted to try the lunch special which was the 2 slices of pizza and a drink. I could not believe how bad this was. I hope that the owner of this place reads my comments because I know that they just opened recently. Because the pizza slices I had yesterday were absolutely NOT fresh at all! I picked up the first slice and I knew immediately this was going to be bad. When you have to use 2 hands to pick up a slice because the pizza is so soggy and bending so much that you have to use the other hand to take a bite, then you know that this was not made fresh that day. I cannot believe that it was this bad though. Since I was already disappointed but still needed to have something for lunch, I went back to the counter and asked them if they would just reheat it for me. They did, but it unfortunately did not help. I could not even finish my lunch and I left so disappointed. It was by far the worst experience I have ever had eating pizza. That's why I do hope that the owners will read this comments and know that I would never waste this much time writing a review if it wasn't...
Read moreI’ve worked in foodservice for 10 years including restaurants, catering, and as a food service director for a college. Previously lived in northeast USA and on the hunt for good pizza.
Service was great, the staff was attentive and helpful. That being said, drinks were self-serve so their role was limited.
Atmosphere is well thought out. Wallpaper, ceiling, and exterior fits a pizzeria theme.
Flavor of food was good. We ordered two Sicilians and got a free cheese calzone. The cheese calzone had ample cheese and was tall, not flat and skimpy. Would pay for it in the future.
The Sicilian was disappointing. I watched the staff take a pre-baked crust, add sauce, cheese and toppings, and put it in the oven. Subsequently, someone else took fresh dough and fitted it into two half-sheet pans. I spoke with a staff member after the meal and asked if there was a difference between dine-in and ordering ahead for take-out if they used fresh dough or pre-baked crust. He informed me that they make all dough/crust in-house but they bake and freeze the Sicilian crust. We were prepared—with three children under 5 years old—to wait at least 20 minutes for our food but it came out in less than 10 minutes. I can’t vouch for the rest of their pizza, but I would not have ordered the Sicilian had I known it...
