Before leaving Nashville, Fat Man Reviews stopped in to the West Coast Taco Shop. West Coast has several locations in and around the Nashville area. They serve fresh to order Southern California style Mexican food, including all day breakfast burritos.
My fiancé tried the Breakfast Burrito with potato, egg and cheese. This is a large burrito that was cooked and seasoned well with some nice subtle flavor. Everything was fresh to order. The potatoes were hot and crunchy on the outside and pillowy on the inside. The egg was scrambled style and soft but still fluffy. The cheese is shredded but did melt with the heat and steam from the eggs and potatoes. It could have used some sour cream, queso, hot sauce or salsa to not only brighten up the dish but also cut through the denseness of the burrito and filling. These items are probably available for order at an extra charge.
I ordered the Breakfast Burrito with chorizo, egg and cheese. Again this is a really good-sized burrito, stuffed inside a large tortilla. Everything again was cooked and seasoned well, However even though the spice on the back end is pleasant, I wish the chorizo was a little spicier. Also, this burrito could have been even better with sour cream, queso, hot sauce or salsa.
We both shared the Carna Asada Fries. This was a large order and perfect for sharing. The fries were out of a bag but cooked and seasoned perfectly. The steak was cooked and seasoned well, and they give you a good portion of it. The guacamole was spot on with an enjoyable salty flavor. The sour cream added a nice coolness to the dish. The one knock was it would have been better if the cheese was melted, or it was covered in queso, but this is a tasty dish.
West Coast has a good-sized menu offering lots of options from steak, chicken, pastor, carnitas, fish and veggie. The serve tacos, quesadillas, burritos, burrito bowls and especialties. The service was nice and fast, you will want to bring your appetite here, or prepare for leftovers. The Fat Man says that West Coast Taco Shop is Fat Man Approved...
Read moreBest California burritos I've found in the city so far! They're delicious, just make sure to ask for crema (sour cream) on it. I'm not sure why it's not on it by default since it's part of what makes a cali burrito a cali burrito, but at least you can have it added on for an additional 50 cents. Their red and green hot sauce are delicious as well and complement their food really well!
Cali burritos should always contain the following; french fries (screw any place that puts boiled potatoes - looking at you Oscars), carne asada, pico, cheese, and crema (anything extra is either the shops preference or some hipster restuarant trying to basterdize the cali burrito - looking at you Nectar).
My only other knock is that their San Diego burrito has carne asada instead of shrimp making it a Cali burrito instead of San Diego burrito but with quacomole.
~This is coming from someone who grew up in San Diego where both these burritos originated from (we all know LA and NorCal trying to steal SD's...
Read moreI guess there’s a first time for everything. This is my first time going to a restaurant and there’s no menu. I wanted to order some tacos, and apparently the screen that has the taco menu was off. I ask the guy behind the counter if there’s a taco menu and he tells me the screen is broken, doesn’t even offer a menu or anything, he literally just stands there. So I ask for a menu and he’s says that they don’t have any. The place literally has ‘taco shop’ in the name, yet they can’t provide you a list of tacos they have. I thought maybe it was a hidden camera prank for a second. How can you have a restaurant with this kind of incompetence? Guy was super rude and just didn’t care. I walked out instead of ordering. If you can’t even say hi when a customer greets you, you don’t...
