I regret to say that today was only my first visit to Homegrown considering that I live about a mile away and they've been open for 2 years now. I'm so glad we are getting some good places to go in Donelson these days. It was a Sunday just as brunch had ended. They offered me brunch anyway but they were out of hollandaise which I totally appreciated since real food sometimes runs out. I opted for the regular lunch menu. The home made meat balls on my sandwich were wonderful with plenty of onion. The marinara was delicious and the bread was perfect. It came with lots of good tasting chips and a fantastic house made pickle. I have to say that the pickle was so fresh and tasty that it reminded me of Stein's Deli on Magazine Street in New Orleans. I had a red beer that I don't remember the name of. I like that I could get an 8oz glass and it was perfect. Sonia(sp?) was a pleasure to meet and provided great service. She told me that the beers are carefully curated and change often depending on the supplier and the size keg they order. Cool! Obviously I haven't explored the menu completely yet but I have a GF friend I intend to invite here to check it out further. And I will be back on my own for sure. The atmosphere was clean, open and relaxed. I really like that they use locally sourced ingredients and make their own pickles and other items. For the reviewers who complain about the prices, I suggest you go to McDonald's. And if you complain about $7 for a kid's meal, maybe you should keep them at home and give them some fish sticks instead. I gladly pay...
Read moreI try not to leave bad reviews and this place isn't awful. We've been here four times, it's obviously hit or miss.
Tonight, we had a small group of 6 and it was trivia night. We got served initially quickly, but trivia fired up and the service disappeared. Everyone at the table had empty glasses, orders were placed. After 25 minutes of ordering 3 alcohol beverages, my wife asked the server about the drinks. We were quickly lectured about trivia starting and they were busy. Fair enough, not mad, just waiting. After 40 minutes, I went to the bathroom and decided to stop at the bar to check on our drinks. The bartender (manager) confirmed my drink with the table on the computer, promptly poured it and then charged me at the bar. When I arrived at table, the beer I ordered nearly an hour ago was waiting at my seat. The server even made a point to tell us she didn't know what happened to our order and it must have gotten lost.
I get it's busy, but after I watch everyone in our area order drinks, receive them, and completely consume them, I expect not to be badgered about asking why. I can be petty, while standing at the bar, I watched the bartender pour 8 drinks in 1 minute 40 seconds (yes, I timed her). But instead of just checking to make sure it wasn't lost, we got sass. Luckily I don't live in Nashville anymore, so probably won't be back here.
Go to TennFold down the street, it's over all better and I never receive a side of...
Read moreI'm bummed to write such a review but unfortunately today was our last time at Homegrown. Let me preface by saying that with the limited local restaurant options in Donelson I really have wanted to love Homegrown and support then for supporting locally sourced ingredients. We've visited three times prior to today and every time have had some sort of complaint. Whether it be super slow service or sparse filling in a sandwich yet overpriced. We were happy to see that they recently added a lunch option (one sandwich, side, drink for $10). Not only did we opt out of the included drink for a beer on tap but we were charged full price for our 'lunch special' . The server grabbed our card off the table BEFORE he brought our ticket for review and at that point waiting for the $6 difference to be reimbursed was too time consuming considering that service was extremely slow. A table of 8 who sat down after us got their food ten minutes before us and we had two people. Homegrown needs proper staffing to accommodate busy lunch crowds so these simple mistakes can be rectified. Slightly larger portions would also be appreciated. Bread to filling ratio in a sandwich is way off. We will not...
