Hello Googlers! It’s been awhile since your loyal and humble Google Guide has reviewed. And I dare say to long! Now. Let’s give a well thought out yet critical review of Kimbles. I’m going to preface this review by giving them their “fix” upfront. Instead of being critical without thought? Which I would never do anyway. Because it’s such an obvious easy fix? I’m going to hack/to with the obvious problem. Is that absolutely destroyed my experience. But only because I could see through the foggy distance of the horrific smell of cheap cleaner (Fabulouso) that was apparently thrown into the entire restaurant by the bucket load? By some shortsighted moron, who should have their smell receptors checked. The smell was so strong, that it actually permeated itself into the flat top grill at least one part of it as I could taste Fabuloso caramelized into one of my pancakes decimating my experience, completely. FIX- for God’s sakes! Exchange Fabulosa for good Cplorox bleach watered down a bit. Furthermore, your server explain to me that it’s done that way bpecause of the location of the restaurant which is a top very near a slews (think swamppp. And a very un extreme way. The restaurant is not located in a swamp. And alligators do not cone out to eat your pets. A build up of plankton having it lifecycle sped up by the shallow waters of this saltwater inlet degrade into a unappreciated smell. Nothing that would knock you on your back, but an understandable problem for a restaurant trying to make it. Fix- don’t turn your hoods on first thing in the morning. Do you have your cooks caramelized onions every single morning without the hood exhaust units turned on. Now I remember you can have this done anywhere if you have or invest in a few omelette station style burners. Go out to the middle of the restaurant, fill the large skillet with rough chopped onion powder, half a cup of sugar, salt, pepper, and maybe a heavy heavy dash of Mrs. Fields. And keep those onions cooking until having been flipped to a number of times by the cooks as a come back to review to the condition of the onions. And make sure you have some window windows open in the area where are foot traffic is sure to walk by. This doesn’t have to be a great big thing. Everyone use caramelized onions for something in a restaurant if you haven’t got a clue? Add to a pasta special. Or set the top your focaccia before baking or delicious soup of your choice. You really can’t go wrong. French onion soup comes to mind, see? It’s not that hard! You’ve now been gifted with a promising idea of eliminating that slightly offputting smell of plankton and even attracted hotel gas to your location! You’re welcome.
With that out-of-the-way? My quick review of my experience and service and food without fabulouso anywhere in the picture Nor in the future, please?
My server was on point. Friendly quick to notice a need by guests. Why, I imagine even a facial expression of the slightest “comehither” most probably would’ve attracted her attention to the guest need. Her explanation of the specials was pointed and helpful. I did not need to wonder when my food was coming. The food- our breakfast was delicious, hot, and very well-made! I understand it’s just breakfast. But when you order your eggs medium? And they come out unquestionably perfectly medium? It says a lot. We tipped the server very well and for the most part we had a good time. I would be delighted to receive an invitation to retry the restaurant! Until then? I wait with bated...
Read moreFive stars without a doubt! We visited for lunch and definitely received five star service and meals. The breakfast burger was amazing and it was a culinary work of art. For instance, the burger had a well balanced blend of flavor profiles and not a one over powered the other. The chef (yes, a true chef) managed not only a balanced flavor profile but built the burger artfully in a manor that kept the burger in tact and beautiful while enjoying it…no burger sloppiness here. Oh, and the bun wow! I don’t know where they get those buns but it was soft, supple and fresh, there was no taking shortcuts with this artfully created burger. If you are a burger lover and a breakfast lover you won’t be disappointed with their combination masterpiece! We also crossed the border a bit with an order of authentic Mexico City quesadillas. If you miss authentic street food you will feel right at home with these. Wait, that’s not all! With the quesadillas was the most incredible, bold and flavorful morita salsa, I mean amazing. Seriously, I was amazed at the incredible flavor. The morita salsa wasn’t the only star in the show, the other two salsa were very tasty in their own right as well.
Moving on to our other dish, the chicken milanesa plate was comprised of tender chicken with a nicely textured crust and tasty. The Caesar salad was delicious and leaves my mouth watering for more just writing about.
Our server provided excellent service and was very attentive and one can tell that she has great pride in the food and service at the restaurant. The manager’s kindness and enthusiasm was equally pleasing and appreciated. In summary, the name “Kimball’s Fine Eatery” lives up to its name, it truly is a fine eatery including the ombiance. Something that I personally appreciate about the restaurant is their recognition of National City’s founder, Frank Kimball. Frank had the foresight and vision to put National City on the map, he gave of himself greatly to the community and its early development, he was a great man. It’s nice to see that his legacy is not forgotten and he would no doubt be proud of the restaurant with...

They were not available so This time we had Andrew who referred to himself as Jay's protege. He is new but is doing a good job. The menu offered a new item The breakfast board! It was like $37 for 2 people and offered all the breakfast greats! You get pancakes, french toast, chicken and waffles, eggs, potatoes, sausage and bacon!!! I swear for the portions and variety you can't beat that anywhere!!! And it was so good!!! The only problem we had was our table had not been wiped down and the place wasn't as clean as it usually is. We went on father's day morning and sat outside. I'm assuming it was still dirty from the night before. We were a huge group and they were happy to accommodate us right away. It's the second time we go with a group of 12 without reservations and they have been very accommodating. I was really happy with...
