Jesse Camille's restaurant is an old establishment with American cuisine located in Naugatuck situated on the scenic Hop Brook public golf course. Hop Brook, a stream formed from the Naugatuck river, runs between the course and the restaurant. Diners can eat outside on the porch to look at the brook and golf course, or inside in the main dining room which is well designed and includes big windows and a fireplace. There is also a pub area with tables near the bar.
Of our two signature cocktails in addition to a glass of lemonade, the "Breakfast of Champs" was more of a real drink made from maple bourbon, rye, butter schnapps, and bitters with an orange slice. The "Icee Puddle" with raspberry white rum, blue curaco and lemonade was more like a non-alcholic drink given to kids when eating out with family so they can feel grownup, too. It reminded me of the frozen blue colored ice pop you squeeze out of a wrapper.
The calamari was fair. One of the least impressive takes on this popular appetizer to date. No tentacles. Light breading with little crunch or flavor. Smaller portion. It did have some gorgonzola that helped the dish.
House salads that came with our entrées were very good. The right size and some red onion, shredded carrot, cucumber and cherry tomatoes added in. Dressings came in plastic containers but we liked both the peppercorn and balsamic.
The Sesame Crusted Rare Ahi Tuna was good and a welcome item on a menu. I wondered why our server asked how I wanted it cooked since it specifys the dish is rare. People must request the item but for it to be cooked well-done. A small portion for the price. I wondered how much is served in the appetizer version. The yellow rice, which looks just like Vigo's rice in a bag I cook often myself, was cold and undercooked. The warm spinach was decent. An accompanying slaw was too bright.
The JC's Duck Hook IPA Fish & Chips was better. Bigger portion and thicker batter on this fish than on the calamari. The French fries were the best thing on both our plates. Crispy, creamy and colorful.
My partner has only eaten dinner here over the years but not in some time. This was his first lunch experience. He thought the dinner service and fare was better or it was then. I didn't get the impression there were different menus but maybe there are specials. There are a lot of items to choose from so I'm sure there are other dishes we would prefer and enjoy much more. The bill was pricey for lunch for two. It may as well have been dinner.
Still, it's a pleasant place to grab a drink or some food especially if you're coming in from a round of golf. Jesse Camille's offers private and catered events and has a mobile raw bar. Right now, tables are socially distanced, customers enter and leave with masks and...
Read moreA friend recommended it and although it’s 35 minutes away, we tried it. Well, all I can say is tonight we were back there for the fourth time in seven weeks. The prices are absolutely fair, the Menu is very extensive plus specials we’ve had the Waitress (Melanie) Who is absolutely fantastic and is afraid to say stop don’t order that. It’s not that good tonight however, this is fantastic. And the food is excellent. Every time we’ve been there, we’ve taken food home for a second meal. Considering how many portions are under $24 with most of them under $20 that says a lot. How do you recommend a clam chowder, fantastic. So far I have had several pasta dishes of which both were so large. I took some home and I am a big eater. I also had a special sandwich tonight that came with aus jus similar to a French Dip but very very nice. My wife was upset because I ate it all. On Saturday evening, it can be a little bit noisy and we recommend sitting in the main dining room. However, we love sitting in the pub area in the table next to the electric fireplace, which is further away from the bar and it’s just very comfortable. The only negative we can come up with is because we like to eat leisurely and we tell Melanie to keep our food coming slowly we’re there for a while and the hard chairs make our butts sore. We wish we had pads on the chairs. If you’ve never been there, you...
Read morePlace is nice and has a good location and atmosphere...but my wife and I went there for dinner one night and my wife had paid for a Groupon for this place $40 and it included an appetizer 2 drinks and 2 entrees...when we were seated we were told for entrees we can order "ANYTHING" off the dinner menu except specials...we were more than fine with that so we started to order my wife ordered the chicken marsala and I ordered the braised beef ribs the beef ribs for the most expensive entree. After a few minutes waitress came back and told me that they didn't have a beef ribs today so I opted for the chicken marsala as well. Another couple seated next to us and they ordered Emma gentleman ordered braised beef ribs and they gladly brought it out to him. I asked the waitress why he got beef ribs and I didn't she didn't have an answer for me and just walked away. I thought it was real cheesy that they acted like that because I ordered the most expensive entree not only that the chicken was real cheap in gummy in the portions were real light I personally wouldn't go back it's nothing special to talk about...
