Ya know, I originally gave the overall experience only 3 stars but hindsight being 20/20, I'm gonna go back and give it 4 stars. Gimme 1 second to add that other star and I'll be right back and I'll explain y I went from 3 to 4 stars. Brb......... Ok, now, originally I gave 3 stars all the way. The service is mediocre at best. The best employee is the owners wife. When she's on the job, she opens the place, bartends and cooks, and is the last one standing, she closes the place. NOT TO MENTION, her husband, the owner...her catering to him and being his right hand (wo)man for over 40 yrs now is an amazing task alone. The other employees, đ meh, nothing special really. No hustle, just there to serve beers and make a check, nothing like the one I previously described. Now for the food..... The Victoria inn has reputation for over half a century now for serving above average viddles (food) and I'm not gonna sit here and trash the cook. Her food is definitely yummy but really nothing special except for it's all homemade. The thing that is the foods biggest downfall is that it is the most overpriced that I've ever seen ANYWHERE, EVER!!! No exaggerating. A simple hot dog with a 50¢bag of chips a dipping sauce container sized serving of Cole slaw is 9 bucks. That serving of Cole slaw alone cost 4 bucks. THAT'S INSANE! But here's the main reason y I went from 3 to 4 stars....the atmosphere. I'm now 41 yrs YOUNG... not old....I been coming to this establishment for 20 yrs at least now. Always a pleasure to be here. Everyone is friendly and respectful. Used to be kind of a biker gang kinda place but I was never about that. Also that is no longer the case. Now it's a friendly comfortable naugatuck place of awesomeness. And here's another main reason I upped the stars due to the atmosphere....I haven't drank in somewhere around 10 yrs now. Also, I live in an apartment upstairs from the Victoria inn for going on 3 yrs now. And this is one of the best most peaceful places that I've ever called home. I initially thought living upstairs from a bar would fo sho be loud and disturbing but truth be told this place is super peaceful. Now if everyone involved did their own lil part and gave a lil umph, kinda how I explained how the owners wife does, this place would be unstoppable and would deserve not 5 but 6 stars. But till then,...
Read moreTried various menu items. It was ok. Nothing seems in house made but the soup. Which was delicious. Definitely try it. There was a pool tournament going on which made it difficult to get a table. So we ate at the bar. Service was great. Bartender was friendly. The kitchen is an open concept. So you can see the cook working on your food. I ordered the chips and salsa. She cut a tortilla and fried it. Then jar salsa was added to the plate. So no in house salsa and not freshly made. Still, presentation was great. Only one cook on duty. So food was served hot, but not all at once for our party. To be expected under the circumstances. One thing I NEED to brag about are the pretzels with beer-cheese sauce! Please order this! We all loved the hot soft pretzels. Both sauces were amazing! Worth the trip to this old world bar. We loved the tin ceiling and they decorated the place nicely. Makes a great atmosphere. Just what you'd expect from an old New...
Read moreWe decided to give this place a try today, as we've lived in town for 5 years and realized we really don't get out much anymore. We came in the doors and realized just how small it was, for some reason with the big building, I thought it was larger. We had drinks and a basic dinner, which were both great! I noticed they are A rated by the local health dept, so that comforted me before we got the food. You can see the kitchen from almost anyplace inside the bar and our food came out perfectly. Definitely one of the best cooked burgers in town! Just one warning before you go, they don't accept credit cards anymore, but they do have a functioning ATM inside, so we weren't worried. I was definitely impressed and will be back! Thank you for a relaxing dinner, I felt like we were in an episode...
