Located on the outskirts of Pahrump, Johnnys Taco Shop is one of the first places to have lunch after hitting the local trails for a 4x4 trip.

What to expect: Johnnys Taco Shop is a small family owned business. This is not fast food, although my food did come out within 10 minutes and I was pleasantly surprised. The decor is classically decorated with an open concept and there’s outdoor seating if you’d like to bring your pup or pups, which I appreciated.

About the food: Something very hard for me is NOT ordering Birria when I see it on the menu. I ordered the Birria plate and an order of Flautas. I enjoyed the Flautas but the beef was a bit under flavor and seemed a bit over cooked. The Birria had the same beef, I love queso birria tacos, I left one on the plate (I know, I was surprised too). The Birria was a little underwhelming and the beef as I discussed was tough. Usually I want to put the Birria juice in a shot glass and shoot it like a tequila shot, it was just greasy and flavorless. I also left the Birria juice on the plate (again, me too very surprised). I can say the chips before the meal were hard to put down, absolutely delicious. They were light and flavorful with the red salsa provided as the appetizer. I almost asked for another order. I unfortunately do not feel like I received what I expected. To be fair, they do have an incredible selection of unique dishes you will not find at many Mexican restaurants. If I could go back, most of the seafood dishes I saw come out of the window looked to die for.

I absolutely love Mexican food, it’s in fact my “kryptonite. The food I ordered did not meet my expectations but I can see Johnny’s Taco Shop has potential to make some really tasty food. The food, for me, fell short of what The Typical Tourist...

Walked in to order take out. Was not greeted by anyone. Supervisor stood talking on her phone and appeared only concerned with reconciling her cash register. We looked at the menu, chose what we wanted, and were still ignored. Server walking around putting together napkins and forks. Still stood patiently waiting...nothing...no type of acknowledgement whatsoever. Cook looked at us a few times.. Waited a few more minutes...nothing. Decided to leave. Upon turning around to go, supervisor person said I can take your order now. By that time, it was too late and we left without responding to her. When we got outside a customer asked if we had our order taken and we said no. He then told us he had been waiting for his check for 15 minutes. I have never had such a terrible experience at a restaurant and will not be going back. I will tell other people about my experience as well. I would give this restaurant 0 stars. As someone who has worked in the customer service field, I am appalled....

Meh. The food is microwaved, comes out steaming. Oddly flavorless. The red salsa is thin, quite hot, but lacks any depth of flavor. The green salsa is hot, too, though somewhat more mild. I had the carne asada fries, which was okay, except the fries were limp, and the refried beans have zero seasoning. My bf had the #1 combo, 3 soft tacos, 1 of each meat offered. They're street tacos, so about 3 bites each. Comes with beans and rice. I got jamaica to drink, and it was obviously a watered down mix. When we said it tasted plain, the waitress brought some horchata, which was nice. My bf's final opinion was, "We won't be back here." Overall, I found the food to be flavorless, underseasoned. Everything seemed microwaved. There was nothing special about it....

Liked the salsa. Just the right amount of heat. Combo plate #5 was very good. Especially the chili relleno. Hubby’s chicken burrito was disappointing. We asked for red sauce to add and that helped. My Margarita was good. A busy place which is a good sign. Had the fried ice cream. It’s not fried, just rolled in crushed cereal. But it had ice cream so was good. Not a bad place for a quick meal but not great. Clean, good service. Liked the picture of Frieda so gave the place a 4th star!

Good selection of dishes. Went for the mariscos. Reminiscent of So Cal dishes. Very busy on Sunday pm. Four of us had guacamole, carnitas chimichanga, garlic shrimp, whole fried fish and chile verde. All were a 5-8 on a 1-10 scale, 10 being best. Chips not notable although red salsa was hot and flavorful and green salsa mild and tasty. Wanted to try the fried ice cream but needed to get going so maybe next time.
