I'm never coming back to this place. It started off okay, no problem the waiter was pretty chill. His name was Trevor, he might have been new.he got a lot of things wrong but that wasn't a problem. We had a party of 6 and we're ready to spend a lot of money on alcohol after eating dinner. But it wasn't until the 1145pm shift showed up. I didn't get the guy's name but he looked like a skinny Mr clean but with a grey goatee. He came to our table, sat down and laid into us because we all got separate checks. He told us to never do that again, to think before we come into an establishment. He asked us if we all had zelle, cash app or venmo. A few of us answered him back because we were still in shock at how rude he was. He told us well then use them next time, it's not hard. Because it causes problems for them when they split the check. I didn't want to throw Trevor under the bus but when we first got there he asked us do we want to pay for the bill on one card or put the bill for each individual. We chose to split the bill individual. It wouldn't have been a problem if he asked us to all pay on one bill. We just went and was easy for us at that moment. Trevor told us that we had to order all our food before 11:45 because that's when he leaves and the new shift comes in and they put everything on one bill. So we did exactly what he told us to do. But I guess it might have been too much for him and he must have been rushing trying to get off the clock and fill out all the receipts. But once Mr clean got up and walked away we finished our food and we left since we've already paid. We went down the street to PT's, hold the bartender what happened he told us that he's being a lot of complaints from people who go to Winchell's pub. And even regulars have having a problem with this Mr clean guy. My group and I dropped a couple hundred dollars for alcohol and played pool for 4 hours. Definitely going back to PT's. But never in my 13 years of going to pubs have I ever had that kind of experience from a bartender. I don't know if he has a chip on his shoulder or that he just thinks he's a badass but he definitely should have handled that situation better with his...
Read moreMy last restaurant review on Trip Advisor was 5 stars, but I can only give this Winchell's 2 stars. The service was poor (1 star) and the food mediocre (2 stars), but the facility itself was above average (4 stars).
Although I wouldn't serve cheap steak, canned gravy, and boxed (i.e., instant) mashed potatoes to my Mother-in-Law, in my opinion Winchell's proudly serves this dish to their customers. (If I'm honest, I actually would serve my M-i-L cheap steak, but that's just my own little secret.)
I ordered the steak special and found the steak to be tough although well cooked. To me the steak seemed to be just a cheap cut of meat. This special included a bland mushroom gravy that tasted like it just came out of a can. Along the same lines, the mashed potatoes tasted suspiciously instant. I don't know that they were instant, I just know they were tasteless. If the gravy was not canned, and the potatoes were not out of a box, then I would encourage the Chef to take refresher courses at the culinary institute.
First impressions are lasting impressions, and I came close to leaving even before sitting down. As I stood at the "Please wait to be seated" sign, I heard a voice challenging me from behind, asking in a very stern and hostile tone, "Can I help you?" There was nothing kind, courteous, or welcoming about the tone of this voice.
I would have left at this point (and maybe should have) except that I had just flown into Las Vegas from Dubai and traveled about 36 hours, so I was hungry and utterly exhausted.
My server was the same bundle of joy and sweetness who ambushed me at the door (...Shaina I think?). The only thawing of the glacial ice I saw from her came when she handed me the check and seemed to realize at this point that I would now be filling in the line item labeled "tip".
Compared to my last restaurant I reviewed on Trip Advisor (5 stars), this Winchell's was not worth the...
