Discovered Sugaree's several years ago and ordered from them a few times per year. While the shipping costs were obscene and the cake prices were a bit steep (at the time, layer cakes were around $55, I loved the products and service enough to bite the bullet, recognize the quality/value aspect and in fact, recommended them to others. I had not ordered from them recently so when I received an email regarding Easter ordering, I thought it was time to order again. Then I looked at the prices and saw that layer cakes are now approximately $75 each. That did it for me. While I realize the entire world is suffering from the impact of "pandemic pricing", it can't be possible that each cake is now around $20-$25 more because the cost of ingredients has increased that much. Add shipping to this and the cost is now bordering on ridiculous. It is incredibly frustrating that the customer seems to at the mercy of every business complaining of cost increases - well, what about the fact that we are facing constant significant cost increases in every area (groceries, fuel, transportation) at at time when our wages are not increasing? To be completely honest, I feel like most businesses are taking unfair advantage and using the "shortages" to inflate prices because they can. I also recognize that there are a lot of people for whom these costs simply don't matter and they earn or have enough that they don't feel the impact of an inflationary economy. However I am not one of them and Sugaree's has now become an unaffordable luxury. It is for that reason and that reason alone that it...
Read moreIf you’re reading this JUST GO! You won’t be disappointed. Everything we tried was delicious. Caramel cake 10/10. Ding dong 10/10. Italian crème cake 10/10. Red velvet 7/10. We haven’t eaten the brownie yet but it has to be good based on the other desserts. The red velvet icing is delicious, but the cake didn’t pass muster.
When you walk inside, there’s a bakery counter and a center display with samples. There is no seating inside. This was a very traditional bakery. There’s also a freezer where you can purchase frozen whole and half cakes and pies. Beyond cakes, brownies, and pies, they have cupcakes, pralines, lemon squares, and more.
Service was great. And they package the desserts well. However, the server said they do not have a public restroom when my Mom asked. If you need to use one, go to city hall just across the street or a...
Read moreWe were visiting family in Ripley but my son and I stayed in New Albany. (The house that we were supposed to stay in was messing with my asthma) we needed to find something to do before go picking up my mother in Ripley. So we went to downtown New Albany and this Bakery caught my eye. We enjoyed the customer service and suggestions that we were given. We had also talked about how eating cake Frozen was the best. I'm not sure if they heard me shriek in enjoyment when I'd seen the cheesecake. My son and I bought a couple slices of cake, I bought an additional brownie for myself and my mom enjoyed the Tarts that I bought for her. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely visit. update the cakes and brownies...
