Here are the reasons why I am rating this restaurant so poorly:
They messed up our order. I asked for a burger without onions on it, due to my friend being allergic, and it came with caramelized onions cooked right into it. Mistakes happen right? Well, read on.. They made a mistake, but they did nothing to rectify it; and they’d rather see their customers starve than be satisfied patrons. Upon telling my server, Audrey, that the burger had onions on it — she didn’t offer a resolution (such as another burger, to take it off the bill, etc.), didn’t even apologize, and ran away from the table and didn’t come back for about 20 mins. They charged us for the food my friend was allergic to. Once we received the bill, the burger was still listed on there. After pointing it out to Audrey, she said “there are no guarantees” that it can be removed. She then spoke with management and came back to the table, and told us that they wouldn’t remove the burger from the bill. They lied; When we spoke with the manager, he claimed that Audrey told him that my friend ate most of the burger, so he wouldn’t be able to remove it from the bill. My friend showed it to him. To his dismay, Audrey clearly lied to him and placed blame on the customer. The manager claimed to be “reusing” partially eaten food. The manager said that the only way he’d be able to remove the burger from the bill is if we gave it back to him. I wanted to feed it to my dog instead of wasting it. He claimed it wouldn’t go to waste because he would “reuse” it. My friend countered, “you’re going to reserve it to customers?” He stuttered suspiciously and denied it. My friend left hungry. And while they finally removed the burger from the bill, we left angry and told him that we wouldn’t be back…and we won’t be.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was overpriced, bland, and the flavor that you could taste was mediocre at best.
I will go a step further than just not recommending. To care so little about the satisfaction, the health and well-being of customers that have severe allergic reactions, and to refuse to honor orders…I would advise you not to go there. And after reading other reviews, it looks like we were not alone in being...
Read moreDisclaimer: we dined during the fishfly festival, which is not a typical indication of a restaurant's performance as it is more like a stress test. Even so, I must say I enjoyed my time at this place. Knapp's City Garage reminded me of a step up from Vinsetta Garage in Royal Oak and a step down from Ford's Garage in Dearborn.
Would I recommend to a friend: YES!
The atmosphere was absolutely amazing! This place gives of a great auto / rock and roll / man vibe. I loved it. My six year old loved all the decorations on the wall and things hanging from the ceiling.
The service was mediocre, but again I believe that is because of the fishfly festival. No real complaints, just things took much longer than expected and our server didn't seem into serving, I just felt something was off. I would bet on a normal day this would not have been the case.
The food was mixed - 90% amazing, 10% WTH happened. We ordered pork belly burnt ends as an appetizer. I suggest staying away from those. Burnt ends are not really supposed to be burnt. The pork belly was totally charred to the point it felt like eating pure carbon. I picked out maybe three pieces out of the entire bowl that we could eat - and we were starving. The kid's grilled cheese was AWESOME! My wife's burger (I can't remember which one she had) was cooked perfectly and tasted exactly the way a burger should. My Ruben wasn't the best I have ever had, but was a damn good Ruben with the right amount of dressing and didn't feel like the meat was lacking... all good portions.
In conclusion, Knapp's City Garage is an amazing place right by the water to stop for a GREAT bite to eat (just stay away from the pork belly burnt ends) :) The atmosphere was magnificent and the rest of the food was really good. I would highly recommend dining at this place if you are in the mood for a great place mixed with great food. I didn't get to taste the pizzas, but they looked excellent as well... I am looking forward to trying those at some point...
Read moreIncredibly overpriced for what you’re getting. This is one of those millennial restaurants where everything is double the price of what it should be, decoration is severely lacking, and every employee is either a 20-30 year old woman or a 30-60 year old man with a long beard.
Anyway, besides that, the food is okay at best. Stake bites are $16?! Are you SERIOUS? You’re getting steak bits with herbs and sauce on it and it’s an incredibly small portion for what you’re paying, and that’s just an appetizer, or they call it a “sharable”.
Don’t order the burgers. They’re expensive and make you feel horrible after eating them for whatever reason. Me and my whole family including friends often leave them half uneaten because of this. They just sit in the fridge for a week then get thrown out. ESPECIALLY don’t get the Mexican burger. It’s tasteless, the avocado overpowers the lime sauce, its bland, and not at all worth the amount you’re paying. Speaking of the burgers, the meat is about as tasteless as it gets. It either has too much salt or too little, they don’t even bother putting other seasonings in it. For $13+ dollars you’d think they’d try to season it.
Their pizzas are decent albeit they leave them in the wood fire oven for way too long. The bottom is almost always half black and the crust is almost always extremely crunchy, and not the good kind either. More like a burnt type of crunchy. Their pizzas are also, hilariously, lacking distinct flavor. All you can taste is the burnt part of the bottom of the pizza, the sauce, and hints of cheese. The pepperonis might as well not be there as they’re literally tasteless unless you peel it off and eat it separately.
The only thing ultimately worth your money are the drinks, and even then it’s a little iffy.
Don’t overspend here unless you’re going out for a party night or something. This won’t work unless you’re willing to overpay...
