We were planning on going to Black's when we saw the sign for Cooper's so we decided to try it out instead. We loved the sausage and the chicken. I had the chopped beef baked potato which was really good. Asked for extra butter and the gentleman asked if I wanted extra cheese or bacon too because they didn't have a limit on them and I thought that was such a great touch! Only complaint is that the outside of the potato had a little too much salt and pepper. I loved that it was seasoned, because I like to eat the whole thing, but someone had a little bit of a heavy hand when it came to that. My husband said the brisket was okay, but he felt like it was missing something. He liked my chopped beef better than the brisket. He loved that the chicken was juicy and moist, especially the breast. We're big beef sausage eaters so we weren't sure if we would like theirs and we loved it. Kind of has a weiner aftertaste, but wasn't overpowering and was so good. Bought a couple of pork ribs but didn't get to try them because we were so full by the time we got to them. The potato salad was ok, but the beans were awesome! Loved that they were free and you could eat as much as you wanted. The sweet tea was perfect. It wasn't too sweet and was just so tasty. The pecan pie cobbler was ok, but I wouldn't buy again. Overall it was kind of pricey, over $75 for everything in the pics (missing the potato salad, cobbler and 2 drinks) and there was only 2 of us. We will come back, but maybe for a date night because it's just a little too pricey to come more often than that. Please open one in San Antonio!! Update: Tried the ribs they bombed The employee was pushing it on us too saying, "How about ribs? My last two!" My husband said ok so we could try it and we shouldn't have done it. We had so much food and we're so full, we brought it home without trying it there. BIG MISTAKE!!! There was barely any meat...and I mean BARELY! $18 for 2 bones??? I'm going to have to remove a star for that. We were so disappointed because we really...
Read moreThis is our go-to BBQ restaurant when in San Antonio. Make sure you’re hungry! The best there is and part of the reason we want to move there! You walk up to the pit and tell the Pit Master what you want. You can actually see all of the food and pick it out. Brisket, steaks, pork chops...it’s all there to choose from. Different flavors of sausage and huge meaty, ribs. I highly recommend the pork chop, also! It’s huge...so consider sharing it. The pork loin is delicious...tender and flavorful. He’ll ask if you want it “dunked.” YES!...you DO want it dunked! He will dunk it in some amazing juice-like BBQ sauce liquid gold. He puts it on all on a red tray and you carry it to the Carver. The Carver slices it, weighs it and packages it up. You then move down the line past potato salads, condiments, baked potato fixins, cheese, etc. to the yummy sides. The Mac and cheese is delicious. My son likes the jalapeño Mac and cheese. Don’t pass up the cobbler. The peach is my favorite...with ice cream, of course! Pay for your goodies then head to the seating area. The tables all have HUGE jars of whole jalapeños sitting in the middle. Help yourself...I have never been brave enough to try them. You’ll find butcher paper to put your food on. Go get yourself some of those delicious beans, too (self-serve). You probably won’t be able to eat all of your food...we never can. But do we cut back on what we purchase??? Nooooo...but I digress... So, you will want to bring home your leftovers. There are counters with foil and butcher paper to wrap up your leftovers, along with some brown bags and plastic bags. You probably won’t eat for the rest of the day...but this place is a...
Read moreVisited New Braunfels Texas to visit friends who used to live in San Diego with us. They highly recommended for all time pit and barbecue. We didn't know what to expect but the place is amazing. When you first walk in you give them the order how many pounds of meat that you want. They have turkey beef and pork as well as ribs this follows a long salad bar where you can pick out whatever you want at the very end is the dessert bar and probably everybody's favorite. Our hosts picked a number of different items and they were served family style on large tables. The food was typical barbecue but I really like the idea especially if you come with a big group to select what everybody wants and self-serving it at your own table. This was really a first for us and I would gladly go back again. We were traveling in a motorhome and really wanted to go back and get some barbecue for the return trip but things didn't work out. If you haven't tried this place you happen to find yourself around the brunt felt Texas I would highly recommend you Google and try this place out. While there is no table service and it is more like café the keep things like bread and beans full on separate serving tables and you can get whatever drinks you desire including soft drinks and coffee. Beer is available at extra cost. Appears to be to be a little expensive when you consider your ordering by the pound or partial pound in the long run I think you come out ahead especially if you bring your family or...
