This review will be a bit different from my normal ones as I visited the restaurant. I know, I didn’t pay for delivery for once! Truth be told I needed to rent a couple tools like a post hole digger and an angle grinder and Home Depot is right there. Make a few twists in the parking lot and you end up at Taco Palenque. Good news here is that if you are getting your tires done/fixed Discount Tire is literally 200 feet away or so. Just walk and you are there! Breakfast Tacos can be your delight or any other combo that they offer.
Moving along to the actual review… So, I took a few interior photos for a “lay of the land” so to speak, but the salsa bar was the part I thought was the most important. I found that there were some good options to choose from here and everything was clean. Oddly enough I liked combining the two red salsas they offered at about a 60/40 ratio in the little black cup, mixed it, and found it to be just the right amount of heat for the chips, but also acceptable for the breakfast tacos. I like heat though, so I suggest trying what suits you best for the task at hand.
Speaking of the task at hand, we must move on to the entrée, which consisted of two breakfast tacos. I chose to get Bacon and Egg and Ham and Egg as my selections this time around as they are often my core choices for breakfast tacos. I took a photo of how the tacos came to me at the table, which is the one wrapped in foil. I then opened each independently to take a couple photos so you could see what you are getting in each taco ingredients and texture wise.
I mentioned that this would be a shorter review, so in my usual tradition we enter the “Final Thoughts” phase of this review. I was glad that I stopped by, but, I am biased toward a couple small businesses here in New Braunfels. What I greatly appreciated is that they made the food to order. I can think of many places who just keep a large container of stuff and scoop it in from storage in a hot box. There is always the possibility that I am wrong but being that they used real eggs and not the ones from the carton, I’m going with “The eggs do what they are supposed to do.” I was not quite sure what to think on the tortilla, but it was indeed at least heated through, and it too served its purpose. If you are getting new tires or visiting Home Depot for some things that you need, this place is right there and worth your time. They also have a Drive Thru if that is important to you on your way to the river...
Read moreI have not taken time to write a single review, but the experience I just had, needs to be heard. We are here on vacation, and we have a couple taco Palenque's back home. NONE of them compare this one , and a lot of it has to do with the customer service we received. I have never been treated so well. Not even at some of the fancier restaurants. This kid Eddie that works there, goes above and beyond. He made our families night so enjoyable. He checked on us , refilled drinks, made sure our orders were correct, with such great attitude and patience. We even had an older aunt with us, that can get a little impatient, and he showed nothing but kindness. He seriously did such a great job, that I thought about it when I woke up this morning, because I forgot to do it last night. That guy is going to be someone special, no matter what he does in life. He just has that great friendly personality and quality that you don't find in too many people these dates. I would seriously drive back here from Houston, just to eat here again. The food was fantastic. We came in with 14 hungry people, and the food came out in a timely manner. Everything was fresh and tasted so good. We all were so glad we didn't end up at some random taqueria. The horchata was amazing, everything was really so good, and so much better than back at home. This location received 5 stars from me and the whole family. GREAT JOB! I really mean that. We may go again one more time before we leave this morning. Their barbacoa is tender and juicy, the salsas were fresh, the refried beans and fideo was delicious. I can't say enough good things. Thank you all, especially to Eddie. You're truly an...
Read moreThe New Braunfels store is located adjacent to Discount Tire, a business which is always quite busy, and customers routinely wait onsite until the work on their cars are completed. When I deliver my car for service, I like to visit Taco Palenque. Obviously, I approach the store on foot. Unfortunately, during COVID, the store is serving only drive-thru patrons, which poses a difficulty for me. The drive-thru kiosk does not sense the presence of a person, only a vehicle. Therefore, I am unable to place my food order by simply standing in line with the cars. That is a technical failure of your drive-thru system; however, it is a weakness that could be overcome with assertive and creative management. The New Braunfels store has made no attempt to acknowledge walk-up customers, nor does it offer instructions on the entry doors to walk-up customers. The doors have been posted only with an announcement that the dining room is closed, and that service is limited to the drive-thru format. When I approach the Pay Window in order to place my order (and I have witnessed other walk-up customers do the same), store employees are surprised by the presence of a pedestrian. They appear to be completely ill-prepared to engage with a walk-up customer. The very possibility is beyond their grasp. This reflects on an overall poor corporate culture, manifest in poor leadership, poor vision, poor adaptability, poor preparation, poor training, and poor execution of the store's basic mission:...
