There has been a lot of hype around this chain which specializes in a Korean version of corn dogs. They look great online and I decided to finally try one yesterday.
I liked that the interior was clean, there was plenty of seating, the employee at the cashier was friendly, and the TV Menu made for quick and easy ordering.
Right away I noticed if you placed and paid an order via the TV Menu, the order number assigned to you will not align with the order numbering machine behind the glass near the cashier. For example, my order number was 104 and the order numbering machine was displaying number 6 (most likely for those who ordered and paid directly through the employee at the cashier). Also, confirming an order via TV menu prompted me to input my phone number to receive the order receipt and updates. It is a handy feature but the text messages said the order would be ready in 5 to 10 minutes and informed me that my order was ready earlier than reality. In total, I waited a little over 20 minutes for my order number to be announced by the employee at the cash register.
There were only two employees (cashier and kitchen staff member) working behind the counter during my time at this location. One person with a yellow cap who seemed like the manager popped in from the back area for a brief moment to possibly check-in on things.
Ordered: #1 Oh K Classsic Hot Dog $3.99 (x1) #7 Half Mozza & Half Hot Dog $4.99 (x1) #9 Potato Hot Dog $5.99 (x2)
My sister said she liked the half mozza and half hot dog with ketchup and mustard topping. There was a good amount of cheese pull.
My friend and I thought the potato hot dog with ketchup and mustard topping wasn’t as cohesive as expected. The rice flour based batter had a slightly grainy texture and it was a little too thick (unsure if it is so the pieces of potato better adhere to the batter). I wanted a more crispy exterior (maybe oil temperature needs to be adjusted or better controlled). Also, the potato cubes would be more enjoyable if they were small diced (not sure if size can be controlled if it is a pre-prepared ingredient). I wonder if it is possible for the hot dog itself to be thoroughly air dried by setting on a baking tray and a cooling rack after it is cooked so that moisture doesn’t negatively impact the batter in any way while frying.
Overall, my experience was kind of a let down even though I did not have high expectations. There are many aesthetically pleasing food/drink items nowadays featured online but don’t come up to par when you finally try them. There can be quality and consistency issues during peak hours but these issues can happen at any moment really. Maybe it’s because I haven’t tried other versions of the Korean take on the corn dog yet so my expectation was skewed but I’ve cooked with all the basic ingredients before and know when something can...
Read moreNot single parent friendly. Some single parents can afford restaurant or fast food prices and others can afford but at a minimal price. My son picked out this place i wanted to treat him to something nice and affordable i thought, well he ordered #4 cheddar hotdog $5.99 on the menu so i said ok cool i know there was going to be some tax as i explained to my son what taxes on food means the cashier can hear me as well . So from 5.99 my sons one and only hotdog came out to $7.50 ! On my receipt says a dollar extra so i asked why a dollar extra plus all the tax and the price itself ?? The cashier said because its a beef hot dog i asked why you didnt tell me that beef was A WHOLE DOLLAR more than the other hotdogs WOW! I even asked if he gets paid more from out of making me pay more ?? I felt so played !! I told my son this is another lesson learned ! Every were you go some! "SOME" people like to sheme & take advantage charging extra. ESPECIALLY when its a family owned restaurant and not big enterprises they will do whatever ! The cashier asked if i wanted to speak to the manager like if i was going to be scared or something ???? No point of speaking to a manager , for what ? The manager is not going to lower the price and be fair , the manager is the reason why the prices are so greedy , owners , managers whatever you want to call them. What was i going to gain by speaking to the manager ??? I rather make a post and tell the world !!!!! Call me cheap call me broke , call me whatever !! But the prices here are unfair , over priced and shocking !! Born and raised in new haven , im from this city and to eat from places like this from people who are not from here to make it all nice and overpriced to feed all the college students with big bucks and people from out of town is pretty smart huh i see what you people are doing . How about make it...
Read moreI was excited to try this restaurant being that the reviews was good and I was craving a corndog. I got there and it was 1 person in front of me. The lobby was clean and it seemed like they just opened up. I ordered avocado toast with added cheese and a potato one with mozzarella and cheddar (at least that’s what I thought I said). After ordering, sat down and waited 2 min and decided I wanted a peach slushy but turns out it wasn’t ready so i got mango. More people came in and 10 mins later my order was ready. I got cheese mustard and honey mustard on the side. I went to my car and decided to try my “cheese dog” and when i bit into it, it was sweet potatoes on the outside. I didn’t ask for that, then it’s a full hot dog, not mozzarella filled. I didn’t want to go back in because 20 people had walked in already and I didn’t feel like waiting but clearly it was miscommunication. I was very disappointed. Then I’m drinking my mango slushy and there’s black specks inside. Big turn off. Again not going inside it was already a big crowd in front of me. Then i get home and bite into my sandwich and it’s filled with this white sweet sauce that taste very weird to me. With me be pregnant I have strong taste buds and when i don’t like something, I don’t like it. Basically i wasted 16$ and a drive in the rain. I could’ve just stayed in my bed. Very...
