Mary C. is an excellent server!
A group of friends and I visited BAR on Saturday March 6th and requested a table at the door. We were told that there would be a 45 minute wait and we would be notified via text when our table was ready. We waited less than 45 minutes for that text. When our group of 5 were seated we noticed how there was an ample amount of space around us in observance of safety protocols. Mary C. took our order of a large Pepporoni pizza and a large mashed potato pizza. I initially thought I wouldn't like the mashed potato pizza because I've had one before that I didn't like somewhere else. This one was great! Not heavy and cumbersome to eat. It was just right. Of course the large Pepporoni was amazing as well. Just the right amount of crunch and it was easy to hold. Texture and taste were perfect.
The selection of beers on draft were great. Mary C. introduced us to the beer 'Fat Orange Cats Baby Kittens'. It was delicious. We thought we were drinking orange juice. Of course with all IPAS, there's loads of carbs in there and as health conscious gents we opted for some tequila shots shortly thereafter. One member of our group (not saying any names) refused to drink that and asked for Jameson instead. To us, that's breakfast! Anyways, Mary C. was understanding of this and was still swift with our orders. We greatly appreciated her service to our table even during the busy hour that we visited.
All in all I have to say that Bar is an amazing place. It's not just a place to go to drink or club. It's a fantastic pizza house. The atmosphere is very nice, the food is great, and the people who work there are a joy to interact with. I would bring my mom here to eat. It's such a great multipurpose and multi occasion setting. I've been here many times pre-pandemic. It was always good, especially the club scene in the back (although tight because of how packed it would get). My group and I look forward to...
Read moreI would give BAR 5 stars just for their food, but we unfortunately didn’t have the best experience there when we went for lunch yesterday.
We went past 1pm and were fortunately seated right away. The atmosphere was cool, with a cozy, industrial Brooklyn vibe, with high ceilings. The pizza trays are so large you do have to squeeze through to get to your table or be seated.
We ordered the following to share: BAR Salad (Bowl) Thanksgiving Pie (Small)
The BAR salad came within several minutes of ordering and was quite large—we ordered a Bowl ($26+), but a Plate ($14.50+) probably would be sufficient for 2 people, if you’re also planning to eat pizza. I loved the combination of the seasonal greens, sliced pears, caramelized pecans and crumbled blue cheese with a light vinaigrette dressing. I’m not a huge fan of blue cheese, but this one wasn’t overpowering and the other flavors stood out more.
The problem was after the salad. After over 20 min, our pizza still hadn’t arrived. Our server came by telling us it would be coming “soon.” 10 min later, still no pizza. Finally, 45 min after ordering (40 min after our salad), the pizza finally came. Good thing we’d ordered salad—or else, we would’ve had no food for 45 min.
Because it came so late, I ate more salad than I normally would have and could only eat one slice of the pizza. I loved the Thanksgiving pizza and would have had more if it had it not taken so long.
The Thanksgiving pizza had mozzarella, hand mashed potatoes, brick oven cooked turkey stuffing, gravy and cranberry. Because their crust is so thin, the pizza wasn’t too heavy and the combination of all of the toppings was just right. My boyfriend thought it was too much to put on such a thin crust, but I loved it.
They did adjust our bill for us, which made the experience more redeeming. I would like to try other seasonal pies, but maybe just...
Read moreI will never forget the first time I went to Bar, it was my sister’s 21st birthday & our server, Phoebe, made her celebration so fun and memorable! When you walk inside you instantly feel at home, with a nostalgic feeling from the brick oven and booths of wooden tables carved with lovers initials over the years. What a sweet testament to everyone who has shared a cheers here together.
Since then we have been back MANY times, I would eat a slice of Bar pizza every single day if I could!! It’s always worth the wait on busy weekends and the entire staff goes above & beyond to get you a seat as soon as possible. Debatably the best pizza in the entire country, what sets them apart from the rest of New Haven’s pizza scene is the endless options. My favorite is the Eggplant parm but if you bring a large group of friends or family definitely try multiple flavor combos! Must get the Mashed potato bacon, BBQ brisket, and Street Corn Elote with takis, or create your own!
Once I ordered take out on New Year’s eve and was a little hesitant that it might not be as good on such a busy day of the year (for any restaurant). I was overjoyed when I got back to my hotel room and it tasted just as good as I remembered! And the take out counter was a breeze!!!
The last time I went, the bartenders Hunter & Sammy were so knowledgeable, welcoming, and quick to get a drink in my hand! Do not sleep on the incredible cocktail selection, I love that they offer a seasonal drink menu to try something different & fun. They brew their own beer, my favorite is the seasonal sour with options like Strawberry Rhubarb or Blueberry pie! YUM!
Thank you to the entire staff front & back for this gem of a restaurant ❤️
I have met locals who tell me that they have enjoyed Bar’s pizza for 20 years… I am sure that will...
