My friend and I arrived at Omni Hotel at around 7pm. Nothing out of the ordinary. As we entered the lobby, we saw a man and a woman waiting at the front desk. There was no concierge. "Strange" I thought, "Shouldn't there be someone here to check us in?". After some small talk with the people in front of us, we waited around 10 minutes for someone to check us in. "No big deal" I thought "Just an issue that needed addressing. It's 7pm on a Friday, maybe they're understaffed". I should have taken this as a warning and left immediately. My friend and I reached the hotel room and everything seemed great. The room was well kept , the bathroom clean and stocked and everything as peachy. We unpacked and walked about Yale. Upon returning to the hotel, we played some video games and noticed that the temperature of the room was rising steadily. Looking at the thermostat, we noticed that the room temperature was settled at 81 degrees, yet the AC unit noted that the temperature was supposed to be 65. I thought this odd, so I fiddled with the room temperature settings. Still 81 degrees. Since we were on one of the higher floors, I thought there might be a nice breeze from outside, so I would unlock the window and crack it a bit. The windows were bolted to the walls.... sorta. If I pushed a little, the window would come off of its hinges and bow outward into the night sky. When I say "pushed a little", I mean with my index finger, gently. There were 'air vents' which you could open below the windows which lets air in, but they were blocked off. "Cool". I thought, and then called the front desk and mentioned our AC isn't working. Them: "Ah yes, you aren't the only room to call us, our engineering team is looking in to the issue right now." Me: "Great! Cool beans, thank you for letting us know." I hung up, expecting there to be resolution. There was no resolution. At 2AM I woke up in a sweat, confused and dazed. It's April, and the room is still 81 degrees. We paid a decent amount for this room, yet the AC system is broken. "Fine" I thought. It might just be an issue with the AC system, it will be remedied tomorrow. Tomorrow morning rolled around and it was still blazing hot in the room. At this point I'm baffled by how it could even be 81 degrees in the room. So we thought "okay, lets leave the room and see if it cools down when we got back." We explored the town, and returned, and surprise, surprise. Still 81 degrees. At this point we had had enough. We called the front desk and asked what the issue was. Their response: "Oh, we are sorry about this. We can offer you another room. The room you are staying in is most directly in the path of THE SUN, so the room heats up differently than a room on the other side of the building." Now I knew this was horsehocky from one simple fact: This means the room last night should have cooled off (because NO SUN), which it didn't. Still, I entertained the fact and accepted their proposal of taking another room, halfway down the building on the opposite side. I told my friend to wait in the sauna of a hotel room while I scoped out the other. I arrived at the other room, noticed the temperature was at 65 degrees, turned on the "AC" and waited. 10 minutes in and the temperature was already 73 degrees. I went to open the air vents on the window and they . They disconnected completely. Quietly livid, I returned to my friend and we agreed that we will find somewhere else to stay. We packed up and readied to leave. Upon arrival at the front desk, we mentioned that both rooms became warm and the thermostats did not work. The lady at the front desk told us, bluntly, that "they do not have air conditioning in the spring, as the temperature is not hot enough outside." We felt used. We left. The concierge at the hotel we eventually went to laughed when we asked them if they had air...
Read moreThe Omni New Haven at Yale is more expensive than I would normally book, but I was in CT for a funeral and needed to a couple rooms for me/ my fiancé, and my mom. My mom worked at Yale when she was younger, so staying nearby seemed like a good idea so she could show us around all the areas of the campus that were meaningful to her without having to deal with driving and parking. Although the price per night was higher than I would normally book, I decided to go for it anyway for the location and figured we would treat ourselves. At the time we booked, there were a couple bad reviews about noise, but nothing out of the ordinary for any hotel. However, I was blown away with how bad the noise was from inside the rooms at night. We were on the 12th floor. The first night (Wednesday) was fine, but starting Thursday night onward, the noise at night got worse and worse. Nonstop screaming, honking, emergency vehicles, motorcycles revving, booming bass from a night club nearby, and worst of all, ungodly loud music blasting from the cars on the streets below. What's worse, I noticed ALL the windows in our rooms have vents that can be unlocked and propped open. I'm sure they're for ventilation, but they had zero insulation and let in SO MUCH NOISE even though they were all closed! The windows may as well have just been open air portals to the outside, that's how bad the noise was. I tried speaking with the folks at the front desk to help remedy the situation, but they were unsympathetic and did nothing. Didn't even offer earplugs or a noise machine like another review mentioned. They told me the noise was from Yale students partying and there was nothing they could do. This level of noise was way more than college kids being rowdy. Mind you, I lived in a downtown area next to my university when I was going to school and while there was noise, it was NOTHING like this. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL IF YOU WANT TO SLEEP. It is a total waste of money and the proximity to Yale is NOT worth it. I'm surprised this hotel is still in business and that people continue to book here. I'm also skeptical of the lack of bad reviews regarding noise until the last month or so. I will never book another stay at an Omni hotel anywhere ever again after this ridiculously...
Read moreArrived to the hotel around 7:30. We waited for several minutes at the front desk and no one ever appeared. We started calling out and finally someone came out and told us he couldn't check us in because he wasn't front desk staff but that she'd be back soon. This is after getting married and driving an hour to get here, my 8 month pregnant wife is left standing in the over priced fancy lobby for almost 30 minutes before we got checked in. To comp us for the terrible first impression they covered our parking ($50 for two nights), gave us a Yale welcome kit (2 hats, some chocolate and a stuffed animal. We have never and will never be a part of the Yale community) and a room upgrade (which is nothing more than a larger entryway, 80 extra sqft). The staff were helpful (once they showed up) and examined that they just don't have enough help. Only one person working a front desk with mtiple stations so when she needed to go to the bathroom guests just have to wait. For $200 a night I shouldn't be standing in the lobby for half an hour. Also for $200 a night my bathroom shouldn't look like it belongs in a crack house with pealing paint and stained tiles on the walls. The toilets don't have lids and are right below the sink, so every time you flush you're spraying fecal matter all over ty our tooth brush, towels, etc. Neither the AC nor the mini fridge really get cold either. Overall it's clear that no money is being put back into this hotel. They claim to have fully remodelled in the fall of 2019 and that is an outright lie. These rooms have obviously not been maintained properly since they were first built. Not to mention the primary attraction of the hotel was the top floor restaurant which is boldly bragged about on all the booking sites and then once you get here they tell you it's closed due to covid and hand you a list of GrubHub and Uber eats restaurants. The management of this hotel clearly is just greedy and assume that because they are near an ivy league school and look fancy peoe will continue to stay in this...
