My family stayed November 21, 2023 We were visiting Yale university and decided the Blake would be a fantastic Spot. I left our car with the valet and went in for the evening. To our own mistake, we left my wife's small jewelry case in the glove box. Big no no of course. The next day we realized our mistake and dashed to the car to find it was gone. Needless to say she was devastated. We spent an hour tearing the car apart to not find it. The manager said she would look at the scarier cameras. The truck was parked out front under lights by the front door all night. She called us next day to say that yes in fact 2 peeked broke into the car and stole the case. The castle keys were left either in the car or the valet never locked the car. I submitted over $4000 in receipts for outlet losses o have called at least 2-3 times to the manager who gave me her manager. After speaking to all of them since November it's now April, and my family keep falling thru the cracks. I was red to wait reasonable time to give them a chance to fix this. I think I've been more than patient. I do-not recommend this hotel or the Valet as they do not . Offer basic security. I own a business and I know how important reviews are and hope this stimulates a response.
November 2023 I am appalled to have to write this. My family went to New Haven and stayed at the Blake on November 21st 2023 my birthday. My wife left a small case in the glove box (her mistake) it contained about $3500 worth of receipt proven jewelry. We handed our keys to the valet and went inside. Valet parked our suburban 10 feet from the door and it stayed there all night. Apparently the valet attendants left the doors unlocked and 2 thieves broke into our car stealing the case. Next day we scoured the car and my wife left in tears with 5 days left on our trip. The manager Marrisa called me and said they caught the whole thing on camera and yes the car was in fact left unlocked. It's May 20th and the hotel has yet to do anything about this. Manager Justin was called 2 months ago and said he was shocked it hadn't been resolved and he would call me later the same day. 2 months later I'm still being ghosted by management and I guess customer satisfaction and security isn't a priority. My wife had well over $20,000 worth of jewelry with her. The small case was all that was taken aprox $3500. Obviously it's not the money loss that appeals me it's the general lack of response or care for customers throwing down significant money to stay in a hotel. Something nice turned into something crap. I'd advise staying at a 2 star hotel before staying here where your valuables, vehicle and...
Read moreI requested to be moved to a room that got more light and was moved to a room on the 6th floor. Was there to check out the university. I didn't like that you had to go past the bar area, across from the elevators, but then you move and through an additional door that cuts down the noise. I was so glad I stayed in room 609 so I didn't get a ton of noise as it was louder the closer you got to the main hall door for the bar. My recommendation is get a room away from the elevators. The rooms are large and the bed was comfortable. The hotel soap is an scent that I think is an acquired taste, so you may want to remember to bring your own, as I didn't find the local CVS well stocked.
My issue was the room was not super clean when I came in, but I just wiped down the desk chair myself and that area. Didn't see it until I pulled out the chair.
There are supposed to be cameras on that floor, and when I came back from having been out someone had clearly been in my room. Not okay. Clothing was smelly like it had been tried on. I brought clean nice smelling clothes. Also they stole the contents of a lotion, dumping something else in it instead. Just weird.
The next day my room was cleaned really well, and towels clean and replenished. So maybe a different staff was the cleaner?
I went to check out early to make a morning meeting, and staff told me I had room charges, I said I should have any additional charges, then she said let me check. Then told me she meant the charges for the stay of the room, and that there was nothing additional. It was just a little miscommunication, but we got it cleared up quickly.
My issue was you can hear folks in the hall pretty clearly, which I did not like. They need to do more sound proofing. Also the wall was somehow loose and sediment coming down by the plugs closest to the kitchen next to the closets. Like I would move around the wood with my hand loose and it should be attached to the wall.
I would recommend doing a thorough check of your room when you arrive. I think I would prefer to stay at a location closer the school, but I appreciated that when folks weren't roaming the halls, it was quiet, which I needed.
Staff were accommodating on that front, and I was quickly given extra towels when I requested them, and lotion to replace what I had taken.
Final Thoughts: I think access to a mini-kitchen where you can have a kettle for tea, and a mini fridge is nice, but it just didn't feel worth the money. Especially after safety concerns of a break-in and theft, which somehow went unnoticed, this is a place where you will have to advocate for yourself if something goes...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of staying at the Blake Hotel in New Haven, and it has swiftly ascended into our top 5 favorite accommodations, a prestigious list that includes the likes of the Ranahan in Breckenridge CO, the Four Seasons in Celebration FL, and the Tennessean in Knoxville. Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the valet service, who exemplified courtesy by opening the door for my wife and swiftly unloading our luggage from the rental car. The lobby greeted us with its immaculate cleanliness, and the check-in process was remarkably swift. Our room was located on the fourth floor, a king luxury suite that was notably spacious, encompassing a small kitchenette, living area, and dining space in an open but comfortably vast layout. The bathroom, featuring a single sink, was adequately sized for both my wife and me to prepare for our days. Furthermore, the bedroom was so spacious that even with our luggage, the room felt amply large.
If there was any minor quibble, it would be that the floors and ceilings seemed a tad thin. My footsteps echoed, and the sound of guests above us was noticeable, but this is to be expected in a hotel setting as opposed to an Airbnb, making it a negligible issue. However, on an intriguing note, during our 5-night stay, we received a call from the front desk just three minutes after entering our room on the last night concerning a noise complaint. I explained that we had just arrived and mentioned our 8-year-old with Down syndrome was simply walking around the room, to which they responded with understanding and advised us to continue with our evening without worry. Later, around 10 p.m., after my son got out and then back into bed, another complaint was lodged by the guests below us about supposed running and jumping. I reassured the attendant that we were merely walking and humorously suggested that the complainer, seeking utter solitude, perhaps ought to have opted for a cabin in the woods instead. The attendant, sharing in the light-hearted moment, informed us they were obligated to make the call but encouraged us to disregard it. It's empathetic to acknowledge the staff's position in dealing with such difficult complaints. Overall, the hotel was magnificent, the staff exceptional in ensuring our stay was memorable, and we would unequivocally choose to...
