I have had excellent interactions with real people throughout the process. Everyone was kind, thoughful, and eager to help. I genuinely feel supported by the staff at this program.
I am a foodie, which admitedly may be part of my difficulty losing weight. The food choices are fine. Some of the meals that I was most excited for have been a little bland, but some of the meals that I expected to be bland were actually amazing. I think each person may feel differently about the food because we are all coming into the plan from a different place.
That being said, I personally wish more herbs and spices would be used. I also wish the meals would include more vegetables and less bread. Bread makes me itchy, but there isn't a wheat free meal plan. Also, I never want a plain white bread bun. Yuck. And not really that healthy of an option, I would think, but I am not an expert and clearly have my own disfunctions around food. Still, I expected more whole grain options rather than white buns, bleached flour noodles, etc...
Despite my criticisms, this plan has been extremely helpful and I may continue using their services after I finish with the duration I origionally planned. For me, it has taken the stress out of dieting. It is a huge burden lifted off my shoulders to not have to worry about cooking, meal prepping, or trying to figure out calorie counts and appropriate portion sizes for homecooked meals. The food is so much better than what is available for TV dinners, and I can tell that the cooks made the food with the intention of it being reheated. These meals do not taste like soggy reheated leftovers. This is a huge accomplishment!
As the business grows, I would urge the business leaders to consider teaming up with local growers. It would be especially great if the meals could be made with local and seasonal farm products. This can help make the business more environmentally friendly, while supporting local farmers. When sourcing produce this way, it can even increase your...
Read moreOverall, I'm please with Healthy for Life Meals. I'm only in my second week. Last week I did the vegetarian option, and this week I'm trying the 1200 calorie traditional menu because one of my goals is to lose weight.
PROS: *affordable, especially compared with other meal services. *no wasted food - I get just the right amount with Healthy for Life Meals. If I were to go out and buy all of the ingredients that go into one meal I would either waste a lot of it or have to eat the same meal for a week! *fresh - I love that it's fresh rather than frozen. I gladly pick up twice a week for this benefit *a large variety of ingredients every day *tasty - I haven't encountered a meal that doesn't taste good (even those I put off toward the end of the cycle because they don't LOOK or sound appetizing before being heated up). Everything is delicious. *not too much meat, even in the traditional menu, which is why I'm willing to try it *several pickup locations - I'm lucky to have a pickup location near me so I don't have to pay extra for delivery. Some may find the delivery option to be a bonus.
CONS: *inability to tailor to my specific needs - not a true allergy, but onions, yogurt, and black pepper upset my stomach. I can try to avoid the yogurt meals (although there are several), but there seems to be some onions and black pepper in MANY of the meals. *lack of vegetarian options - I would prefer to eat vegetarian, but there's only the 1500 calorie option *no vegan option - plant-based diet would be my preference but there is no vegan option *inability to pause a subscription - it will be a hassle to make sure I cancel my subscription in the right amount of time before my vacation and then have to start it up again.
RECOMMENDED! I recommend Healthy For Life Meals to everyone! Even with minor complaints, this is still the best option I have found and I'm glad I have this...
Read moreMy husband has been on SS meals for 6 months. It has been such a relief to me not to have to 'help' him diet - by planning and making his food. I have a difficult time enough trying to monitor my own eating - let alone feeling resposible for someone else's. I know that his 3 SS meals a day have not cost anymore than what I normally spend in the grocery store, on fast food, or our go-to PIZZA. And he has been mostly receptive to the food. Each meal has been fresh and he's had no big complaints. And since he is not a person to rummage around the kitchen looking for food even after eating a large meal (which I am) - he eats his meals and that's that. Of course it helps that he was very ready to do something about his wgt. At age 68, 5'10, 275 lbs (and miserable) he knew that he had to do something. He's In-The-Zone right now and SS is helping him stick with it. He lost 30 lbs fairly quickly in the first 90 days. And it is the early success in wgt loss - that is the biggest incentive for people to stick with any program. Doctor's have finally come to understand this to be true. The old belief of 'loosing the wgt slowly in order to keep it off' has proven to be absolutely false. Anyone who has ever been able to stay on a diet while loosing as little as 1/2 lb a week - certainly knows that the wgt can come back in a 1/10th of the time it took them to loose it. Thank you SS and good luck to all who are looking for help to get their wgt under control. This will work if you are READY for it! The meals are fairly low in salt - but adding that is not a problem.
The salad - lettuce and veggies - could be ALOT bigger with very little change in calorie consumption. They should skip all the juices and put in fresh fruit instead. Too many apples and oranges as fruit - grapes, melon, berries, bananas would be so...
