The food was great & worthy of 5 stars, the staff was super friendly & also worthy of 5 stars except unfortunately for one person ...our waitress. I always try to turn someone who is maybe having a bad day with a smile & friendly tone(no sarcasm at all)...I was extra sincerely friendly & polite & she was full of herself, no eye contact, offered no apology for bringing everyone around us their food first & then 1/2 our table their food & my mother & my meal late(which I always give benefit of doubt)...she might say it came out of kitchen late...bull.... I saw it when they rang the bell for it & she decided to give folks around us their carrafe of water & others their meals first although ours was late & offered a friendly demeanor towards them ...then on her 2nd trip inside to retrieve it picking up ours & another table's food she still seemingly intentionally held our order in her arms and brought the other tBle theirs before us with no comment/apology(why would she do that when it was on purpose) as to making us wait. Did not ask any of us how our meals were (it was wonderful, but she did not care). She avoided us it seemed while she was somewhat friendlier to those around us... it was obvious she felt she was too good for us & condescending ...I politely thought maybe I had someone else's meal when the wrong side came, she said "oh, I put fruit on the slip" & did bring me the fruit without issue...but when this happens you don't make a face & point out what you did right implying this was someone else's mistake without offering a friendly "I'm sorry" my teenage kids were polite saying may I, please & thank you, while she offered none... we all had a delicious meal but her condescending personality made it a disappointing experience. I waited tables in both the suburbs & Center City & would never treat people the way she did. If I go back I'll be sure to avoid her(the blonde seasoned waItress) . The dark haired lady (Nancy, I think) was super friendly as were the younger staff, hopefully we will have them wait on us. If our blonde waitres would have been consistent with all of the tables around us I would ha e chalked it off as a bad day but it really seemed she singled even me out. Maybe she didn't like my outfit, who knows, but waitressing for over 15 years while in college & working & living downtown I am extra careful to be Uber considerate with waitstaff. She should shape up or ship out at least fake it...seriously...we we're...
Read moreWhat a disappointment. I really wanted to like this place, but my experience there today was so poor that I felt compelled to write this review.
I can’t decide which was the worst element.
First, there was the waitress who totally avoided eye contact, took ten minutes to bring a glass of OJ, and brought us our bill along with our food because, as it turns out, she had no intention of checking back with us to see if we needed anything or whether we were enjoying the meal. The restaurant wasn’t very busy and it was adequately staffed, so her lack of attention wasn’t due to some extraordinary circumstance.
Next was the quiche that tasted about as unappetizing as it looked. It had a weird, fishy taste that rendered it inedible. If a meal isn’t composed of fish, then it should DEFINITELY NOT taste as though it does! The fruit salad that came with it looked as though it had been sitting in the fridge for awhile...but since I couldn’t eat the quiche.... and since the waitress was too preoccupied with looking at her reflection on the window....
My dining companion’s breakfast was alright...standard issue eggs, sausage, and toast. No complaints there.
The very kind hostess who took our bill at the counter asked whether we enjoyed everything. When we gave her the honest assessment, she didn’t seem very concerned...although she conjectured that the reason my quiche tasted fishy because the same knife that cut my quiche also cut the salmon quiche.
That was it! Theee was no offer to remove the inedible item from the bill...no offer of a credit, no real sense of accountability at all. All she said was that she hoped we’d be back to give the place another try.... NOPE.
I have written this review for two reasons:
I hope Rivercat either gets its act together, or that my experience was a total anomaly. Either way, I’m probably never going back...
Read moreWent for motorcycle ride with wife and family members to New Hope this past Saturday and stopped at River Cat Cafe for breakfast. Very good and hearty breakfast. I had the eggs with bacon on Facociia bread with hash browns (very good combination of diced regular and sweet potatoes. The bacon was maple flavored and thick and hearty. Wife had eggs on croissant with same sides and was very satisfied.Especially like the 'help yourself' coffee station. Will...
