I've only ventured into the pub or if you prefer bar scene for the first time in the last month, but like anything I venture into I like to get a feel for it all. I want to go to every pub and experience what they all have to offer. My latest stop has been at Finn McCools and the short version is that it is an exceptional establishment.
The long version is about as long as the bar is at Finn's which is to say you dont expect itll ever end until it does. From the start Finn McCools is by far the single largest pub I've been to and once you step inside you're greeted by a very rustic yet modern aesthetic, a 70" flatscreen (or bigger), the seemingly endless bar, comfortable seating, and so far the friendliest warmest bartenders I've met yet. Initial impressions are otherworldly from the start.
My primary purpose of being at Finn's though is the beer. So what's on tap? A few beers brewed by Guiness including the classic stout as well, a few Indian Pale Ales, a great porter, a lager or two, and one or two other things that escape me. Admittingly it isnt the widest selection of draft beer but they have some great options on tap and they're very very good at pouring a 16oz pint of Guiness. Did I mention the prices? $5 to $8 per 16oz. Exceptional prices.
If that isnt enough to convince you Finn McCool's also has food. Very good food. Criminally good for it being pub food.
What else is there to do beside drink, eat, and watch sports on TV? Play pool. It's a large place and large spaces have plenty of room for plenty of pool tables. You dont like pool? Play darts. Dont like darts? Drink, eat watch sports, or play pool. A few places have as many activities, but most do not.
In the end all I could personally ask more of from Finn McCools would be more great beer on tap. As much as I like an original Guiness there are a few tasty stouts they brew that could also be served. If not Guiness there are numerous stouts and porters that would also fit right at home. Regardless Finn McCools has sufficient draft beer and overall is an exceptional place to stop for a drink or a...
Read moreSean Kennedy current owner is great. Keith current GM, unfortunately, doesn't take long time regulars in consideration when there's an issue with one of the newer bartenders. Check your bill for additional charges by a female bartender. She also likes to hold credit cards overnight, un necessarily. Her attitude is in need of an adjustment. She has actually provoked several of the regulars. She is very rude by her behavior. Such ashame as the holidays are approaching. Definitely on Santa's naughty list. Be careful and aware this holiday season. The coals n switches of Krampus spirit prevailing sadly. As a regular for over 20 years, I regret having to write this review, but this is factual. So just beware until there's a correction of this problem. Perhaps the Christmass season will soffen the hard, cold hearts of employees towards regulars who always tip. All this when the kitchen just got good...
Read moreI visited to watch the EPL, there was an international rugby match on, so most TVs had that on, no big deal. I found a table with the soccer on and soon had an order placed for a beer which was brought to me promptly. No one came to check on me again until the second half of the game had started (45 mins). When they did I ordered another beer and also wanted some food, when I tried to place the food order I was told I had to go to a window at the kitchen to do that. No big deal but it would have been nice to be told that when I first sat down.
I ordered Fish & Chips, the fish was fantastic, really well cooked with crispy batter, the chips on the other hand, I'm not really sure how to describe them, but they definitely weren't what I was expecting for such a highly regarded Irish pub.
Despite the inattentive service and the odd "chip substitute" I will be back again during my...
