Edit: Pictures are from when I got home the same day of the appointment
I didn't have it in me to write a review immediately after my appt bc I had to reel in my emotions. It's been a week and a half, emotions still on high, but I need to vent.
Cliff notes: Erica was beyond late to my virtual consult. It was a couple of days before Essence so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. She was super nice and answered all of my questions. Even had some technical difficulties but we got through it.
Appt day---Erica was on time, offered coffee/water/tea, and space was clean. She even had a loc book waiting in the chair for me to read. She washed my hair...here's where I got a little concerned. I knew I had breakage/shedding from being postpartum so my hair wasn't in the best shape. I wanted a certain type of care that I didn't get. Ok cool...I'm getting locs. I guess it's wrong to expect hair to get detangled and conditioned and prepped and all that. I let that go.
Fast forward to the end of the appointment and I'm under the dryer and she sends me the bill. It's $153 and some change. Since I've already been charged $75 (half of the visit) when I booked, I assumed I'd be paying another $75. I get out of the chair and ask her what's up. She says "Do you know how long it took me to do your hair? I'm behind”...pointing to her client that just sat in her chair. First off, I'm not in control of how long it takes to get my hair done. She knew how long my hair was from the consult. If she wanted to charge me extra, she should have mentioned that BEFOREHAND. I did not want to be rude so I bottled up my emotions and left.
I didn't even look in the mirror. I get home and am in DISBELIEF at how unprofessional my hair looks. The back actually looks fine but the front will have to be redone for sure. Parting is off. Initial coil starters were loose as heck on top of my fine edges. It didn't even look like I went to a salon. Hair looked like it had been done weeks before on the same day.
If I pay extra money than intended for a bomb job, that's one thing. But to leave unsatisfied is another story. And to feel that I couldn't even say anything to her about the quality because of how I was treated about the financial aspect is disheartening.
I would've taken this whole thing down the same day but because I spent so much money, I spent MORE booking a consult with another loctician to see what can be spared. I had intended on being a faithful client to Erica because I am at the stage in life where I'd just rather go to a salon. She also installed diamond parts which seem harder to maintain on your own (from browsing online).
I've never really trusted "professionals" because more times than not I leave unsatisfied. And not because I am picky. But with the prices these days, I should at least leave happy and feel heard.
Virtual consult: $27.49 Starter loc pre appt charge: $75 In-person appt charge: $153.25
$255.74 in wasted money.
I chose Headliners because of the rave reviews and picked Erica because she is the owner. I even planned on using her other stylists as encouraged. I am glad others find her work satisfactory and hope more do, but as for me...I am left with a bumpy start on my loc journey. Let's hope for a...
Read moreThis was my second retwist here and I’m pleased to say I’ve found a new home for my loc maintenance :). My first visit was for a retwist for my mature locs and starter locs since I am growing out my sides. Headliners is extremely professional in comparison to other shops and I’d like to highlight their emphasis on cleanliness, timeliness and building good rapport with clients. They communicate well with their clients and the experience feels very personalized. Shout out to the owner, Ms. Erica, who’s catered an environment that feels so much more unique than routine hair maintenance and instead feels like a therapeutic getaway. She’s truly a Master Loctician. I’m very pleased with my second retwist as well who was done by another hairstylist Zenobia. The result speaks for itself! I feel so confident every-time I’ve walked out the shop and it’s very comforting knowing that only the best of the best will be manipulating the crown of my head. Lastly, they are very easy to book and affordable ! Highly...
Read moreHorrible, unprofessional owner and they don't know how to do lochs. After being told I needed interlocking and scheduling that particular service I got in and told that was not the service I needed. She gave me a business card from another salon nearby I could use instead. I was charged twice what I thought I was going to pay and my hair was not tightened the length of it properly. I talked to owner who went off on me when I'm just trying to inquire about why I was charged twice and my hair needed more work. Highly unprofessional and don't care about making it right only the $$. She only spent an hour on my hair! She wouldn't rectify the situation when i called in and I look like before when I went in there. Now I've got to spend more to fix my hair because of their incompetence. Horrible how some people operate these days and don't take pride...
