We live in the neighborhood around Canal & Carrollton, and have several strong options for good pizza. But we love pizza, and are always on the lookout for a good pie.
I happened across the Google listing for this place, and really liked what I saw. Strong reviews, and good pictures. Enough that we had really high expectations. But they came up short every step of the way.
They were busy when we called, and our calls kept going to a generic voicemail box. No outgoing message identifying the business. I had to double check to see if we had the right number. Something this basic should have clued me in.
We persisted, and finally got a brusque young woman. We ordered two small pizzas, one of them being a "five topping" special. Their web site offered this at twenty bucks for a large, no price for the small. I let it go, it was obvious that she wanted to get of the phone ASAP.
The pizza arrived within the 45 minutes as promised. Paying with a credit card was easy, except I felt pressured to over tip. They had several options, with the lowest at 18%. Since they charge a $2.50 delivery fee, we paid over $7.00 to have it brought to our door. I didn't like that I didn't have an easy option to decide my own tip. The kid who delivered it was nice though.
When we opened the boxes, the pizza was ice cold. We had to microwave it. They also left off one of my ingredients. I know I could have complained and received new pizzas. But we were starving, so we just ate what we had.
To top it off, we both agreed that the pizzas really were not that special. The crust was good. But the sauce was bland, and they could have used more cheese. We certainly have better options nearby.
If it product had knocked our socks off, it may have justified paying $35.00 (!) for two small pizzas. But at the end of the day, we felt a little ripped off.
Honestly, I really don't know what I paid for my pizza. There was no written receipt, and the menu isn't clear.
I have worked in the restaurant industry, and delivered pizzas when I was in college. So I get it. I never leave a one star review. But these guys failed on every step of the process. Here is my summary of my one time only experience with this restaurant.
*Unfriendly service *Pricing on web site is not clear *Mistake on order *Product arrived cold *No receipt (and really expensive) *Gratuity "pressure" *Really average product
I really don't know how they racked up all of these five star reviews. Maybe lots of friends and employees posting? Maybe the service experience is better eating onsite? I don't see how that would improve the product though.
It was an interesting experiment. But I am going to stick with the other local places I know. The product is better, and the...
Read moreI typically only leave good reviews for places but Mid-City Pizza has forced my hand. Just to be clear this is a review dealing with DELIVERY and not with eating in the restaurant. I'll start off positive by saying I do applaud them for delivering later than many options in the neighborhood as well as having a nice online ordering system. I placed my order at exactly 10:30 PM, a very simple one (knowing this having worked at many pizza joints in my past) of a 10 Inch cheese and sausage and a standard order of breadsticks. At 11:35 I called because my food had still not arrived, after waiting on hold for 5 minutes, the person on the phone told me the driver was already on his way, I thought this was great since my delivery address was only 1 short mile from MCP. At 12:05 PM (1 hour and 35 minutes past ordering) I received an aggressive message on my phone from the delivery driver. I found him outside, he was unwilling to come to the door of the clearly marked and well lit house even though there is nothing about the house that would scare anyone away. I ended having to walk outside barefoot in the rain just to grab my food that I did pay a delivery fee and a tip for during the ordering process. Upon arriving inside I found the food completely cold and stale, which tells me that it was made when I ordered it well over an hour previously, and it seemed like it wasn't even given the courtesy to be under a heat lamp while waiting the hour and half to get to me. Would love to change this review to a positive one, but MCP did not offer any comps or anything to salvage this situation, hence the forcing of my hand with...
Read moreArrived to pick up my pizza only to be told that they did not have pepperoni tonight (what pizza place runs out of pepperoni?) and that because I ordered online through Chownow on their web site, they had no way to communicate with me. I asked that they switch it to sausage and sat down to wait for the pizza. I waited 30 minutes with no acknowledgment or update from the staff, so I finally asked how much longer it would be. I was told "let me check" then nothing for another 10 minutes before I was told that the pizza was being boxed up but that they hadn't put the mozzarella sticks in yet. I received the pizza then continued to wait for the mozzarella sticks, only to see her hand me a box that had been sitting on the counter for at least 10 minutes. All in I sat and waited for 45 minutes, only to get home and find that the both the pizza and mozzarella sticks were cold and both had definitely been sitting for some time.
On top of the poor service and handling of the situation, the food was below the usual standard of Mid City Pizza. Flour on the bottom as if it had just been pulled from a bag of flour, to the point that flour was the most prominent taste. Disappointed to see this place going downhill as we had been fans and ordered from...
