It was either Midway or Theo's; never tried either, but decided to go with Midway. The place has a swanky website, decorated with a video montage, newsletter, glowing reviews, etc., all on the front page to lure you in. Ordered the large thin crust Top Shelf Margarita for takeout, and the total came to $30. Their online menu says "The ThinLarge Thin CrustFeeds 4", but the pizza was the usual 8 slices, all of which were not as large as one is led to believe (i.e., if four were to share this pizza, it would be two slices per person). But the pizza looked delicious, smelled delicious, and the ingredients tasted just the same. HOWEVER, the pizza was three-quarters bread, with the remaining one-quarter the actual ingredients advertised (marinara, garlic, olive oil, mozzarella, basil, shaved parmesan). What immediately stood out when taking the first glance at the pizza were several very large air pockets throughout the surface of it. Normally these are superficially identified as signs of a "well-crafted gourmet pie," especially when they're blackened, but these air pockets were simply taking up space--A LOT of space--and crowding out the other ingredients. It literally took no more than three bites per slice to enjoy the ingredients of this specific pizza before winding up with mostly bread left in one's hand. In other words, going through four slices (per individual), what one was left with was a large mound of bread on their plate, and when you have to heat up some marinara that you already have in your fridge just to dip the copious remaining amount of bread in it so as to "enjoy" a pizza that you bought, you know something's not right. So the $30 was primarily spent on a loaf of bread (one whose taste, texture, and consistency were not even all that remarkable), $30 which should be refunded given how almost laughable the portion of bread was remaining after each slice and at the end of it all. Of course not every pizza is made the same (unless you're eating at a chain), and this was probably one of the exceptions made at this place. Again, the ingredients themselves for this pizza were quite good, but one wishes they that had spent $30 on a pizza instead of wasting that money--in today's era of high inflation--on a loaf of bread. One shouldn't always base their recommendations, preferences, etc. on first impressions, which can be deceiving, but the negative economic and aesthetic components of this experience have produced a NOT RECOMMENDED vote for this establishment...
Read moreWent here pretty late at night and all I have to say is that this will become a permanent spot for me.
We ordered meatballs, a "Reggie Dunlop" pizza that according to the website has: Chopped garlic, olive oil, mozzarella, gorgonzola, Prosciutto, pickled red onion, chopped pecans topped with arugula and a balsamic reduction and I had a beer they had on tap.
The meatballs with marinara sauce and green onions were great. I regret not having a photo to share of it but we tore into it right away. However, they weren't worth the price and they were not perfect, I have had better elsewhere..
The reggie dunlop pizza was great, but there were a few issues with it. It was very oily, much more than I would expect from a deep dish pizza with extra oil. Yeah, that oily. It was still delicious but it was nothing to write home about. I also cannot speak on the authenticity of the "deep dish" claim, but it is not as deep as a dish as I have experienced in Chicago.
They do not have many drinks available even though they advertise as they do. Seemingly out of every beverage. Overall, I would not recommend this place as a detour or somewhere to plan a day around,. It should be visited if you're in the area and want to go out and have a nice evening. Everything is more expensive than it should be, and you should just go to Blaze if you want the most efficient food. This place IS however better those restaurants so if you're feeling fancy and live in the area, I definitely...
Read more(Rewritten review) so I first wrote a review of this place several years ago. Now coming back as a veteran reviewer and having lived in new Orleans for six years I'd like to rewrite my review.
The service here is great! Especially since they can get very busy! The piza is amazing absolutely worth the price! Deep dish is key! If you hve never had a deep dish pizza before today is the day to try one because it will knock your delicious mid-way premium beer out of your hands! I never liked salad but when I tried the zeus salad I loved it! Delicious tomatoes, and the vinagerette is to die for it really makes the dish! A+ food and service
Now as far as decor I have to say I really enjoy the good musician art flitted about the place along with the humorously hung luchador banner in the far right corner of the restaurant. Which is also where u can sit and watch the chefs make your pizza! I also enjoy that all the tables (not booths) have paper on them which you obviously have to doodle on! And childrens drawing are hung in the bathroom hallway! A+ Interior
Finally the owners whom I've actually met! Are really kind and fun loving people I haven't spoken to them in a good minute but I really appreciated the last time I spoke to them. They run an amazing location and I appreciate all the work they've put into this...
