Hadn't been to Cure in a few years. A friend requested we meet there last night to celebrate his birthday, and now I remember why I don't go there. Our waitress was downright rude, and rarely around. She made no effort to conceal her apparent disdain for our table (6 to 8 people, as some came and went). One friend who came was working and could not drink (on-call NOPD homicide detective). Another is recovering from radiation treatments after an emergency hysterectomy earlier this year due to cancer, and she also did not order a drink. Perhaps this is why she mostly ignored us. Food and drinks were ordered by the rest of us. Even general questions about drinks or menu were met with attitude from our server. She disappeared from about 6:30 until we flagged her down around 7:10, and was not happy that 1 of our party requested she still be given happy hour pricing on her drink, because she was not given the opportunity to order before 7. It is apparent that she intended to wait til happy hour was over before coming to our table. After reading some of the other reviews here, it seems the owner (who used to respond to reviews, but apparently has given up on that) should realize he has a problem with (some) poor servers. I was in hospitality for years, and the behavior of this employee is completely unacceptable. By the way, I did leave her a note, similar to this review, and did also leave her a nice tip. Not that she deserved it, but perhaps she was having a bad day. That is an attitude she should have towards her customers, because you never know what anyone else is going through. The couple who invited everyone to Cure seemed embarrassed (although not their fault) and neither they nor anyone of the 8 of us will be spending our money at Cure in the future. Honestly, I cannot remember ever having such a rude server, anywhere. Fortunately, we always enjoy each others company and had a good night in spite of our waitress. Shame, this could be a...
Read moreWe honestly had a really negative experience here and were pretty disappointed. We thoroughly enjoy visiting bars on the top 50 list, and are comfortable spending a bit more, expecting a wonderful time. Our visit here was ruined by the staff, who not only seemed to hate their jobs, but hate us as well. We asked the first server if he had time/interest in a dealers choice, and clarified that it was totally okay if not. We had an order in mind if not. He seemed frustrated by the request but didn’t turn it down. We saw him clearly talking about us. The server body language and glances our direction were clear. We liked those drinks and tried not to ask many questions or cause much frustration even though we enjoy learning about the chosen drinks. We drank that and then ordered off the menu to try not to ruffle any feathers. The second set of drinks weren’t even worth finishing - and we were met with more whispers behind the bar. We decided to close out and leave. Our bill was less than expected - we tried to raise the flag that they missed two drinks and they said the first server forgot to ring them up so “we got lucky”. We closed out and tipped and left. I’m not sure if all of the whispers were because they hadn’t properly rang us up and they were annoyed we got free drinks, but we gave them the opportunity to fix it, and the way they treated us was unwarranted. It put a damper on our time here, especially when we ubered a good ways from our hotel in order to try this bar. Extremely disappointed, and it now makes sense why we got some questionable looks from others in the city when we said we were going to visit Cure. I’m one for second chances, but if you have limited time in NOLA and it’s out of your way, don’t...
Read moreAlthough I'm getting older and my metabolism and I aren't BFFs anymore, I can always stomach a well-made cocktail. According to locals and the media, Cure completely instigated the New Orleans cocktail scene and revamped the neighborhood. Mixologists actually know how to make a drink that you will like and they take their art seriously. I appreciate such thoughtfulness for my cocktails.
With their numerous accolades (including a James Beard semifinalist nod and several mentions of being one of the best bars in America), Cure has a menu filled with cocktails. You can try any of the 20 cocktails they love, a reserve cocktail, or ask them to create something using a preferred spirit. Chances are you'll find something you'll love.
Thankfully, they also have some small bites like cheese and charcuterie, steak tartare, deviled eggs, fig and goat cheese toast, as well as meat pies and meatballs. I find their cocktail prices reasonable (most range from $10-12, while the reserve cocktails are around $20-30) but if you want to stretch your dollar, they do have happy hour from 5-7 pm Monday through Thursday and 3-7 pm Friday through Sunday.
The space and design is idyllic. The bar is long and maximizes efficiency for all the mixologists behind the counter, giving all spectators a chance to witness these talented bartenders craft inventions beyond your wildest imagination. There are five shelves in the back bar, housing so many spirits it will make your head spin. Leather booths line the wall, with tables and bar stools to accompany them. There's even an outdoor patio.
A perfect place to wind down, catch up with friends, and have a well-crafted,...
