Food was OKAY but our server (I believe his name could have been John- I’ve added his picture to review) was HORRIBLE! He yelled at us when he gave us our check and the bill was wrong. He charged us for an extra order of Muffelettas (we had only ordered 2) and we asked him about it, he got angry and accused us of eating the extra order (even though there was obviously only two plates on the table, so I guess he thought we ate the plate too? Lol). He raised his voice at us and told us that he’d pay for it since we couldn’t afford to. I told him why are you paying for something we never ordered or received? It became a fiasco and we went to the register and got the manager involved as he continued to yell and have attitudes with us. Even when the manager was asking him to walk away he was still arguing and yelling at us. The manager was very kind and understanding and even through in some extra beignets for us after she verified our new total was correct. When we returned to our tour bus there were other complaints about the server being rude to other tables as well. Later another worker from Morning Call joined us on the bus and apologized again. This experience put a huge damper on our trip and was very unfortunate. I also feel bad for the manager who was trying to provide customer service to my party while dealing with a volatile employee.
(more details/context below about experience if you care)
My family reunion took a tour with VIP Tours and they took a stop at Morning Call. The tour company told us they have some partnership with the restaurant to stop at Morning Call for tourist to get a bite to eat during the tour.
My table waited for almost ten minutes before someone came by and said, "Oh yall havent been helped yet?" This wasn't a big deal as a group of us just came in, but its something to note as our waiter (older white gentleman) was already frazzled and seemed overwhelmed.
Our waiter encouraged us when we got our menus to try the cafe au lait. He said that everyone loves it and that if we dont like it he'll take it back and NO ONE has ever said they didn't like it. We looked at the menu and saw the cafe au lait was only 3.50 so me and two others ordered it. When we received it, it wasn't what i expected and i didn't enjoy it. My sister asked if i wanted to take it back and I declined since it was only $3.50.
It took a while for us to get our checks and the rest of the tour was sitting on the bus waiting for us. When we finally got our checks the total seemed exorbitantly high. That’s when we realized that cafe au lait our waiter encouraged us to try was actually the frozen coffee on the menu. He was calling it cafe au lait without clarifying the difference. This was $6.50 instead of $3.50 that our table expected. This was fine, but I was annoyed because I took two sips and left it at the table when I should have asked to exchange it or take it off my bill.
Then you already know how it ended once we received our incorrect bill. I just hate a simple mistake from our waiter turned into a huge ordeal. I’ve never been so disrespected by a waiter. The manager handled it well, apologized to us, and gave us two bags of beignets for the trouble. Later another worker (another kind older white gentleman) actually stepped on our tour bus and apologized for his behavior. Their customer service went...
Read more#BeignetDoneThat Read Time 2-3 minutes As a true New Orleanian and a curious cat, I decided to give Morning Call a try to test the quality of their beignets amongst the New Orleans original Cafe Du Monde. Let’s see where should I start, with the atmosphere and ambience of course. Morning Call cafe is tucked in a well lit and easily noticeable plaza about 5-10 minutes away from City Park. This estimation depending on whether you choose to walk or drive. A well observed trolley is located just across the street providing easy access to this location and an amazing New Orleans view.
The beignet shop is bright and well lit both on the inside and out with an eye catching mirrored bar counter front and center for uplifted eating and optimal mirror selfies. Upon glancing said mirror, I immediately knew I had to capture a memory. After admiring my beauty in the mirror, it was time to admonish some beignets at the table.
I stepped to the large mahogany bar counter top and ordered a set of beignets and a cocoa for myself and sets of beignets for the girls. As I was ordering, the girls quickly found seating for us and after ordering I went to the table where we all awaited our beignet delivery.
Anticipating our late night treat, we chatted about how the beignets would taste in comparison to Cafe Du Monde. Just as we were finishing up our convo the beignets arrived. They were semi warm and lightly dusted with powdered sugar. We all took a handsome bite and then began to discuss said bite. We all unanimously agreed that they were of good beignet quality;however, not that sweet in taste. This was fine for me, because I coupled my beignet with a sweet cocoa. Boy was I was glad I didn’t get a coffee that night, because the sweet cocoa was a nice balance to the semi sweet beignet.
My recommendation is to definitely check out Morning Call Coffee Stand. The eye catching indoor and outdoor aesthetics are enough to lure you in for a visit. I recommend a hot chocolate with the beignets or if you opt for a Cafe Au Lait get extra powdered sugar.

Read moreis with a heavy heart that I report this owner and/or manager has no time to make his establishment friendly to locals. I think it was probably because my girlfriend got there by herself to study, and the night crowd was making them busy, but this is a coffee shop with WiFi, and if you don't want local students using your place to study for hours, bringing in her friends and family intermittently to spend tons of money at your establishment, you should put up a sign saying so, putting a time limit on your tables to let us all know where you stand. The staff there are always stepford wife chick-fil-a level friendly, which lets me know he tells his staff to be New Orleans type welcoming, but then gets pissy when he has to put on his little tux jacket so you know he is special and is forced to serve the community he chose to represent. I joined my girlfriend and went to the front to grab a drink, which he wouldn't serve me because I was tying up a table, understandable I guessss...except I'm a customer asking for a drink... and what's the business model again? The waiter never came and so he comes back there and says "what you need"?! So very curt for someone so important. I told him, he brings me the drink and says... "so 9.50"... so I didn't order food, asked my girlfriend if we could leave, and asked him if we are welcomed there. He says "oh yeah of course what would give you that idea". I told him the things that offended me. He said "well we're just slammed... sorry we didn't live up to your expectations "... as if people that are busy aren't expected to still deliver at least a minimum level of customer service. Bet he expects it of his employees. Do not give this man your business, there are too many nice places in mid-city. I hope he has to try to survive on just the tourist dollars since that's his preferred clientele. What a shame, I am terribly...
